Obviously this is going to receive short shrif as events have over taken us all but I wanted to make a couple of points.
Here's the Irony. For the first time ever Jol dropped Dawson.
Here's the other irony, typically Gardner manage to injure himself for the zillionth time when opportunity knocked. Poor ****.
Another irony was that berbatov had his best game of the season, actually worked his nuts off. I much prefer him sitting deeper and holding up for Defoe than keane sitting deeper (which usually means Kene getting in he way and flapping alot).
In general it was a weird night. (I didn't realise Jol had been given the tin tac until I got to NP). A disjointed, nervy performance, The worst crowd atmosphere at WHL for along time until a few bouts of Jol tunes seemed to stir us a bit. But apart from a gung ho last 10 minutes we created very little real chances, barely strung together any passing moves or did anything exciting.
Chimbonda as usual played like a twat in our half but quite well in theirs.
We conceded our obligatory set piece goal (Chimbonda this time I think completely lost his man) and another piece of shocking defending cost us a game that while hardly deserving a good victory we probably didn't deserve to loose either.
Cerny 6 - Fuck all to do except pick the ball out. Haven't seen replays so don't know if he could have done better
Chimbonda 5 - It's a competition to see who can be the shittest at set pieces.
Gardner 6.5 - You can't help but feel sorry for him. Destiny marked this fella card a while ago
Kaboul 6 - Why was he moved to accomodate dawson. Still his defending leaves alot to be desired.
Dawson 6 - uhm. nothing new to say really
Lee 6.5 - ok
Lennon 6.5 - needs to involve himself more
Huddlestone 6 - was piss poor first half and kept trying the same ball over the top to no-one. small improvement second half.
Zokora 6.5 - Did ok
Malbranque 7 - I thought he was our livliest player. Couldn't believe Jol took him off.
Berbatov 8 - worked hard and played well.
Defoe 6.5 - did ok
fittingly Jol's substitutions were as usual pretty banal. He took our most creative (on the night) player off and put keane on who did nish. And what tainio for zokora achieved I'm not sure.
A sad farewell really.
