Ron Perlman has already passed the big 4-0. I was just wondering if he's officially the oldest player we've ever had?

My only other thoughts were:

- Hoddle signed Dave Beasant, who may have been in his early 40s at that point.

- We signed a whole squad of nobodies from the lower leagues to play in the Intertoto cup in 1995, some of them I guess were bus-pass carrying vets.

Jimmy Cantrell 40 years 349 days in 1923. Don't know how many days old the Brad man is. He will become the oldest though

Friedel is borned 18. May 1971, half year younger than Van Der Sar and 1,5 years younger than Lehmann.

Dave Beasant played once for us according to his wiki, I don't remember that but apparently it was in 2001, which would've made him 41 or 42. So that makes him older than Friedel for starters.

Where is all this anti-Dan Ashcroft stuff coming from?

I know the whole itk/poyet/Ramos/Redknapp back-story, but apart from a dogmatic and unshackable stance (which we're all entitled to), I don't see where the relentless criticism is coming from. This may be a slight dig at Redknapp's vague habit of signing older players, but it's a legitimate question nevertheless.

Sorry, don't mean to come across all sensitive about this stuff, but he's not exactly Gibbsy, who was an antagonistic cock of the highest order.

Personally for me, it's because he seems to want to come across as a wise sage who knows plenty about football (especially European football), and lots more than the rest of us, but in reality he doesn't really know anything more than we do....and sometimes seems to be actually rather clueless (not specifically this thread mind).

Meh Friedel is merely a pup lol

John Burridge is the oldest ever football player, doing so for Manchester City in May 1995 at the age of 43 years, 4 months and 26 days.

Oldest player to play in the English League was Neil McBain: 51 years and 120 days (for New Brighton v. Hartlepool United, March 15, 1947)

According to Guinness World Records, Jeanne Calment was the oldest person to have lived. Born 21st Feb 1875, died 4 Aug 1997 aged 122 years & 164 days.

It now seems the fashion to knock Dan Ashcroft at every opportunity. I don't subscribe. I may not agree with everything he says but I have no doubt that he is every bit as passionate about the club as we all are and respect the fact that he is as much entitled to his opinion as anyone else. I should add that there are many other members who post far more objectional material and receive absolutely no criticism at all. I guess it is a herd instinct thing.

My gripe with Ashcroft is that he hates our manager for personal reasons first and disagrees with his football decisions second (he's admitted this several times), and that this dislike colours the tone of his every post to the extent that he won't give Redknapp credit for some of the things that he has demonstrably done well during his tenure at Spurs.

I can live with Bus Conductor et al not being a fan of Redknapp as they will base their opinions primarily on football and not on personalities, and they will give credit where credit is due even if overall they would prefer someone else to be managing THFC. I respect that.

What I don't respect is Dan's all-consuming hatred of Redknapp to the point where it blinkers his vision and blinds him to thinking about (and more importantly posting about) anything other than an endless stream of anti-Redknapp vitriol.

I bet lots of other people feel the same way.

I don't recall Beasant playing for us either but can anyone confirm?

Personally I find the whole badgering of Dan Ashcroft quite disturbing.

He has as much right to voice his opinion as the next person. People believed he could walk on water and when it was proved he couldn't, all of a sudden people called him a ****.

Personally, I feel he talks shit, but no more than a lot on here and he gets called out for it more than most.

As for Hellboy, I couldn't give a fuck, though if we sign Charlie Adam I would insist on looking at the birth certificate before believing his age.
