Our best run in form for years has come when Michael Dawson has been out injured or is it just by luck?

I love Dawson and this ain't a thread bashing him but I've just been wondering what's our record like without him and are we better off without him personally I think we are better off without him vs most teams but il admit we missed him vs stoke.

He has his pro's & cons for example he lacks pace and can be turned easily but he will also head & throw himself of anything.

But now with kabouls form I think Dawson should firmly be 4th choice behind Ledley,Younes,Gallas (based on last season)

I also think its time to bring in 2 new centre backs and get rid of bassong & Gallas (at the end of the year) 1 has got to be top draw tho for example a Subotic or a Hummels or even a Dede somebody world class!. The other has got to be a player better or as good as Dawson a Cahill or Jagielka.

I personally think we missed a huge trick not buying phil jones!

What's everybody's thoughts on this is Dawson good enough? Should he start when fit? Do we need to replace him and find a partner alongside Kaboul incase king breaks down?

Surely it has more to do with the fact that he wasn't able to play in a team with Parker and Ade and King. I think Kaboul is great, but I doubt having Dawson in the line up instead of Kaboul would have made a massive difference for the past 12 matches.

4th choice for sure, I actually think it's debatable between him and Bassong.

Jones did not want to come, so i'm not sure we missed out as you suggest.

I can't remember who it is that had some sort of link with Jones' family, possibly MattySpurs, but IIRC once they declared their interest, he was always going to United, nobody else had a chance.

Daws is solid and played an important part in our team while King was injured. I remember plenty of games he played where he tackled, headed and cleared everything thrown at him.

I know he doesn't have the same class as your King or Gallas but he definately loves Spurs and puts in 200% every game, often throwing his head in front of shots without even thinking.

He also has the ability to play too, often spraying passes out to Bale on the wing.

I don't think he deserves the bashing he sometimes get's on here..

He's still useful against the likes of Stoke and Andy Carroll, especially with Friedel being afraid of coming for the ball, I'd rather have Dawson before Gallas and Bassong against teams that want to lump it.

You can win nothing with just eleven players no matter how good they are together. It is a squad game and when you add the reality of injuries and suspensions it is very rarely about players getting no time at all because we are committed to three or four competitions per season. Short termism is alive and well on SC! Dawson is a good EPL standard player whose game is up to looking after most but not all opposition attackers. The key this season has been the surprise continued availabilty of Ledley King....any of our CB's are enhanced by his prescence. Dawson will be an important player for us for a few seasons yet.

I was wondering something similar the other day. Could it be that without Daws in the team we are playing out from the back more, instead of launching that long diagonal from the back?

I'm going to repost (much of) a post I wrote in a thread about Bassong yesterday because I think it fits in here just as much as there...

I'm not sure that I see exactly what Kaboul brings that people are raving about him quite so much. He is still a little ill-disciplined and I personally would have liked him to have upped his game a little more being such a fixture in the side currently. IMO when Daws is back fit he will be the mainstay of the defence, hopefully alongside King, but more likely alongside Kaboul. It was interesting to see that when played alongside Gallas (the supposedly superior and more experienced player) Daws was the one asked to play out of position to suit Billy-the-gooner better.

I've not seen enough of Caulker. Is he a ball playing centre back like King (/Rio Ferdinand/Kaboul)? Or is he more an 'old-school' defender like Dawson(John Terry/Tony Adams)?

Two for Two A&C.

High five bitch :)

The truth of the matter is that he was about to join Liverpool, until Utd scuppered the deal at the last minute.

I don't think there is much between Dawson and Kaboul, but i do think Dawson has hit the heights in terms of where he can go as a player whereas i think Kaboul still has some more potential left in him, i suppose time will tell on that one.

Bloody hell!! Our best run of form due to a defender beig out or perhaps Maybe it's due to the inclusion of Parker and Ade...... Fuck me it's not rocket science! With Daws playing regularly we managed the Holey grail! Some ludicrous statements on here lately.

I thing when fit Kaboul and King are our starters but IMO Dawson is next in line when fit of course. It's easy to say "sign a top drawer cb", Cheslsa thought they had got one and look how that turned out.

I said last season Phil Jones would be a top player, alot of people laughed!!

Maybe we should've kept Palacios, Crouch and played Kranjcar instead of Modric and/or Bale?

That's a bit of a childish comment twisting what I said IMO. Until Daws gets a chance to play with the new players we have around him him he should have our support. He's a guy who plays from his heart, and always gives his all.
