Is Lennon's good form worth £15M sitting on the bench?

I hope we keep Bentley. I'm sure he can come good for us. But if we were to sell him, i'd have Giovani keeping Lennon on his toes. I think Gio is at his best on the right, and would give us another dimension coming infield onto his good left foot. So no worries about cover for right midfield. All we really need is that left footed left midfielder. Then we'd have Modric as a right footed player on the left. Gio the left footed player on the right. And a natural left and right midfielder. So we'll have some great options.

We need to keep him, we can't go back to having just 1 winger in the squad.

Bentley deserves to be on the bench.. he's been rubbish for us more times than good. Lennon has improved his game and is looking like a class act again.

Do I think David deserves to be behind lennon? YES! :D

I don't think it's the competition that is driving Lennon on... after all, Bentley has not really provided any competition at all.

Lennon was performing well below his best for about 18 months, through a combination of injuries, lack of confidence and playing in a struggling team. It's taken a great deal of patience and persistance but he is now playing better than ever, and is probably one of the first names on the teamsheet. I think that having Corluka behind him has been a massive bonus for him. At the moment he's so far ahead of Bentley it's untrue.

I do feel slightly sorry for DB. It has just never happened for him at Spurs and in some ways I think he's been found out. I'd love to see him playing at the same level as when he was with Blackburn, but he's never been able to string together two decent performances (some would argue one decent performance) in a Spurs shirt. He seems to lack the pace to be an out-and-out winger, but I can't see him doing much better in midfield. I'd rather see Jamie O'Hara on the pitch in almost any position.

Who knows? I hope that when he gets a chance in the team he proves me wrong.

I don't think its a coincidence that Lennons best form has coincided with Mods coming.
For the last 18-24 months lennon has been our sole outlet in midfield and teams have shut him out by double teaming up on him. As a young player he had neither the experience or confidence to adapt to this.
The arrival of modric has stretched the opposition allowing lennon more opportunities to go at his man 1:1 and i think we are seeing the benefits. Add to this the vision and movement of Modric and lennon is not only seeing the ball earlier, but he also often has a clever run by Modric as an out ball.
This is not to give all the credit to Modric, as Lennon seems to have worked hard and learned during the last year and seems to be enjoying himself again.

I agree. Having Jenas and Palacios playing deep and doing the donkey work and Modric being more of an all-rounder by posing both attacking threat and helping out defensively and having Corluka behind him has really helped Lennon show his best qualities.

I'm sure the competition of Bentley has helped but I don't believe that is the main factor in Lennon's better performances.

His current deal is till 2012 so wouldn't surprise me if he is offered a fresh contract in the summer as he is now one of our longest serving players in the current squad behind Ledley and Daws. His technique in striking the ball had definately improved, joy to watch the little guy at the moment, he is even trying the more fancy skills again like he did in his first season

on current form lennon is our best player
bentley has yet to have a good game in a spurs shirt so he has to stay on the bench and take any oppotunity harry gives him.
i wouldnt sell him just yet but he definatly needs a kick up the arse

Never could understand why some wanted Lennon out last season, he is still learning the game and was bound to have a quite period. The lad has enough ability to become a great player for us and England and is begining to show jusr how good he is.

Only cocks would think this that have no understanding of the development of young players!

When Bentley played for Norwich he played all over the midfield. Surely he can again.

No need for Bentley at the moment. He has been rubbish bar two games this season really. Lennon has been consistent all season, and raised his game again since Keane has come back. They seem to link really well together. Along with Keane and Modric who actually has the ability to see a pass others can't, he is our creative spark.
His run for the second goal was brilliant as well. He is playing to get into the box at the moment, and that is what scares defenders.

Bentley doesn't merit a position in the team because Lennon is one of our main men. When he gets the ball it brings more excitement to the game. Our right side is our attacking outlet, which allows Modric to drop into the center and make things happen when he gets the ball.

If Bentley leaves in the summer I'll be annoyed because he costs us so much money, but I'll be happy because we have Lennon.

The thing about Lennon is he doesn't seem to be the kind of character who would leave us.

I remember an interview with him early in his career though when he said he was homesick alot but has now grown used to life in London.

I can't think of a player who should be dropped in favour of Bentley at the moment. I would be totally happy if he forced his way into contention through hard work on the training ground and great performances when used as a sub. Always good to have varied options for each position.

lame post alert!
opinions change and all that, and lennon did have a bad patch while bentley was doing really well at blackburn, but it's quite weird to go back through the threads from when we were signing bentley and see people's views on shipping lennon out. most people weren't into it, but here's a few choice cuts from some transfer-market maestros.

(i was bored. and i am very very sad.)

Been away for a while but back now (you lucky lucky people!!)

Get Bentley in. Give them Lennon, Robbo and any other piece of crap we can find (JJ) plus 10million

I thank you

What Bentley offers that Lennon doesn't is that extra bit of bite. Away fixtures at teams like wigan and sunderland need a strong midfield not unwilling to get scrappy. He's honed these sort of skills at Blackburn. Teams like Man Utd and Chelsea always buy players like this, even if they are playing in a skillful position. This is where we have lacked abit in the last couple of seasons, we're the nice guys of the premiership.

I know Lennon does track back and I've been impressed with this improvement this season. But his size and physic will always be against him in some situations.

Some people need to remove their spurs tinted glasses. Lennon and Bentley are different players granted, but if it was a choice between the two, it would Bentley every time.

its out of us liverpool and chelsea as to who gets him.

id have him over lennon any day of the week due to bentley actually being able to cross a ball.
15 is a lot but he is a class player, and will only get better.

According to reports we are prepared to pay 7m plus lennon and ghaly for bentley. Would you be happy with that?

Hells yeah.

Ghaly is meaningless as nobody will pay anything for him.

So 7 + Lennon for Bently. Depends on how you valuate both, but I rate Bentley over Lennon significantly for one reason: he has winner written all over him. We have too few of these types of players.

Another fine performance from the blackburn fella today and another disapointing game from our boy lennon against pompey.

I feel that with blackburn looking unlikley for europe and bentley hussling for a new contract, now is the time to get him before someone else does?. Would they swap?. If we offered lennon and 5 mil i think they would seriously consider.

My perfect summer signing.

Bentley has so much more to his game. I would swap him for Lennon at the drop of a hat.

I also think Berbs would be happier with him than Lennon with his early but very accurate passing.

Some vintage stuff in there. Grass is not always greener. My Woolwich supporting mate said when we got done over for paying that much, there was a reason Wenger gets rid of certain players. Bentley had the ability but he wasn't happy with his mental strengths and attitude.

Because Lennon normally turns invisible, happens all the time.

He finally starts to be consistent with half the season left
