Is Ramos a bad manager?

It was widely understood that Ramos managed teams with an obvious structure. With all succesful teams in recent history he liked a strong spine in his team:- powerful central defenders, at least one strong ball winning mifielder and a target man upfront who distributes good ball and plays in fast wing backs/striker/midfielders.
SO, my question is..............was he always hamstrung by the men who was bringing in the players for him and doing the deals or was he just poor and out of his depth?

I don't know. He has managed something like 12 teams in 11 years. That has to say something.

I would say he's a good, not great, but a good manager, based on what he did at Sevilla.

But I don't think he was cut out for the EPL. We should've seen it last season when teams like Birmingham and Newcastle were walking over us, 4-1 both.

He did bring us a title though, and we should be thankful for that. It was a great day.

I'm not sure really. His record at Seville was very good. I think sometimes a good manager working with the wrong board won't work but the manager comes out looking bad and sometimes a board will support an average manager to the full and make him look very good.

It appears Ramos was not the right man for Spurs.

he was an out of depth incompetent fool. this league is not like spanish football, he was a mercenary who came for the cash. the cc victory had Jol written on it for me. we won it inspite of ramos.

Pesronally i think you've hit the nail on the head. we've had two top class 'coaches' in Jol and Ramos but an extremely poor DOF who for whatever reason exerted far too much influence at the club without enough accountability.
IMHO he's accounted for two of the best european coaches going about in the game and Levy should be held responsible for that.
Comolli's influence shouldn't be underestimated in either of there departures

NO i disagree, the 5-1 scum game apart he has not lived up to his billing. oh and the Roma friendly, he has done nothing in his time to prove he could take us up a level. he got Hutton/Woody and the welsh kid whose name escapes me right now. they were quality signings. yet after the carling cup he could not show his worth. I agree on the Jol bit though he was quality.

I think he'll walk into a job at Atletico Madrid and if they end up in the Eufa cup after christmas and get Spurs they will make us suffer.

Ramos has played with a midfield enforcing ball winner, strong centre halves and a big ball playing target man.................he ot none of those this ummer. If you were defending comolli, he provideda topquality CD in Woodgate bot the rest of the positions we are woefully short. If Ramos a tall powerful target man and Comolli provided Bent for !6.5 then that says it all

Yes i beleive that. he was out of his depth at spurs. AFTER the carling cup he could only muster 3 wins and that was with players like Robbie and Berba, added to the january signings. history will show he was our worst manager. we played boring boring football, did you enjoy that ????

no i would never defend that scum comolli, he was the course of Jol leaving, i was never in favour of ramos, but when we did sign him i expected big things from him. the last year as a supporter has been painful for me. i can look forward to us winnning again.

The question is though, is Ramos as bad as his results have appeared or does he need a top quality DOF to scout his players and is he merely a great coach who's been asked to do too much???

He was a bad manager for us. He tried to establish a style of play but failed spectacularly and in the last few weeks I don't think even he knew what he was doing.

no he was an absolute clown. to think you can come to the premier league and not even bother to learn the language defies belief. How can there be a player coach relationship with a huge language barrier there. I wonder if the plan was all along to get sacked and paid off as soon as possible and get back home. His tactics would certainly support that conclusion. At least then hes just a mean bastard and not a complete incompetent fool.

But you can only impose your style if you have the tools. He's never been put forward as a top quality scout just a v good coach. It can be argued he's worked with below average tools in vital positions

He had the language suffiiently to converse with the players though. He just chose to use the language barrier as an excuse to not speak with the press. You can't blame him, probably not his wisest move with hindsight

I dont know who made the decisions this summer, but if it was Comolli, he cut Ramos' legs out from under him. If it was Ramos, then he blew it.

in any case, other than the CC, Ramos showed little ability to manage a team in the EPL.
