well Raymond Verheijen certainly thinks so

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/oct/14/wales-raymond-verheijen-roy-hodgson-dinosaur

Verheijen, who has also worked with Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester City and Holland, claimed on Twitter that the 67-year-old had “once again made himself look extremely stupid. He is the perfect example of a typical uneducated English coach.

“Embarrassing to see dinosaur Hodgson questioning the fitness regime of the forward-thinking manager Brendan Rodgers. Roy Hodgson’s incompetence must be frustrating for educated managers like Brendan Rodgers who travelled the world.”

Verheijen, went into precise details as to why Sterling should be treated differently. “Firstly, 19-year old players do not have a fully matured body yet so for them the game demands are higher & will develop much more fatigue,” wrote the Dutchman, who still acts as consultant for several national football associations and clubs.

“Young players who develop more fatigue during the game need longer time to get rid of this fatigue otherwise they accumulate fatigue in body.

“Secondly, Sterling is not only a young but also an explosive player. They have many fast muscle fibres compared to less explosive players.

“Fast muscle fibres recover slower compared to slow muscle fibres because less blood & oxygen is running through these fast muscle fibres.

“If explosive players do not get extra recovery time & are treated in the same way as other players, they accumulate fatigue in their body.

“Accumulation of fatigue due to insufficient recovery makes the nervous system slower. The signal from brain to muscles travel slower

“If the signal from the brain arrives later in the muscles this means the brain has less control over body during explosive football actions.

“So there’s much evidence that insufficient recovery, accumulation of fatigue & slower nervous system are dramatically increasing injury risk.”

Weirdly, i've always found Hodgson the opposite of a 'typical uneducated England coach' in his approach and his career. Seems a lazy criticism.

I don't think he's necessarily right in criticizing Pool so publically but, given the needle between the club and him, I can see why he chose to speak out.

No but he's a supercilious, pretentious and fairly dull person/coach.

If he spends the rest of the season playing regularly, twice a week, for Liverpool then it shows this was very much a club v country thing rather than a player fitness thing.

Also, it didn't seem to be a problem when the World Cup was on and Sterling was playing in the build-up friendlies and 3 competitive games!

"Roy Hodgson’s incompetence must be frustrating for educated managers like Brendan Rodgers who travelled the world.”

Hodgson has managed sixteen teams in eight different countries so I'd say that Hodgson has travelled the world a bit as well. I can't think of any other English managers with the same experience.

probably but that he seems to have found a system to fit the players rather than shoehorn them into a flat 442 or just copying other teams earns him some credit imo

He is a dinosaur but I cant agree with this. If he is tired then why are Liverpool playing him in the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup

A forward thinking manager like Brendon Rodgers, Fuck off.

How come he left Sterling out there against poorer sides like Boro, Ludogrets and etc.

Roy has rested Sterling more than Brendon.

I think he's a bit of an idiot in that he didn't really have to hang Sterling out to dry like that, but I do like what he's doing with the young players now. I just hope he can develop a system.

I do think it's an issue that England like to hire fossil managers though.

Seems very strange for anyone to say any British manager has travelled the world compared to Hodgson.

Hodgson gets things wrong sometimes but I've found him to be a very calming influence.

The England team is really poor at the moment. I don't think we have a single world class player at the moment. We're not strong in any position.

We can blame the manager all we want but it's not his fault.

He probably felt like he didn't have much choice. If he feels that the Liverpool manager is trying to exert influence over his players during Englands competitive matches then Hodgson really has to try to put a stop to it. I get the impression that he'd already spoken to BR privately. It will be interesting to see if Rodgers rests him for any of the big games and how he handles him over the Christmas period.

I do agree that it would be nice to see a youngerman in charge of England, I can't think of too many candidates. I wonder if Gary Neville will be in the frame for the job next time round?

I think he's pretty useless, should have gone after the World Cup which was an epic clusterfuck in terms of planning and tactics.

He's a yes man; a weak, doddering old douchebag who the FA can push around because he's happy just to be there. Fuck him, fuck the FA, and fuck the English National Team.

I would disagree, only because agreeing would be siding with Brenton, and I don't ever want to do that because the bloke is a fucking self-obsessed bellend. He'll be talking about himself in the 3rd person like Sol in no time, the ****.

The lack of respect for Hodgson is pitiful yet unsurprising. Dear old Bobby Robson suffered it too yet in hindsight he was rightly appreciated. Hodgson is as educated an Englishman in football as you are likely to get. But he's not very charismatic, old and he has a speech impediment. Therefore, people think he's an easy target. That's just bollocks.
