I don't think Zaha is top-class now, and he would be coming in as a back-up - 5th choice attacking player behind Kane, Son, Kulusevski and Richarlison. That is not the position to be paying over the top wages to.This is such a flawed argument. The reason why Zaha would be on big wages is because he is top class now. The reason Sarr is not going to be on massive wages is because he is miles away from Zaha in quality.
This sort of thinking led to us signing bergwijn, lo celso and ndombele.
Is the player good enough now, would be my question. I can understand from a squad building process to make sure you don't fill your squad with old players, but I'd be much more focused on talent than age.
Add his age to that, and it becomes more likely he will fall to Sarr's level sooner rather than later. So why pay more to get that level of production?
I agree with the general proposition that you want to have players who are capable now - and if we were buying a player to come into the XI, I would choose experience over potential - but even then, I would be looking at the 27-28 yo range.
