Levy on Bale sale: 'Tottenham is not a club that can consistently pay £50 million for a player. We have to make our players." 3/3. #THFC

  2. Addicted to Spurs ‏@AddictedtoSpurs 1h
Levy on Bale: "..we believed Gareth would be a committed Tottenham player. I would much rather be here with Gareth Bale in the team." 2/3

Levy on Bale sale: "It wasn't a money decision that forced us to sell him. I easily would have turned down 125 million if.." 1/3 #THFC

1. Well, IMO, Levy is bulshitting- not "a money decision"- that's laughable.

2. Also, I thought Modric also didn't seem like he would be a committed Tottenham player but we kept him and he was very good in his last season as we all know.

3. If you wanted Bale in the team, you could have just told him where to go.

4. Apparently "we have to make our players". Basically, he is saying we have to build up players and then sell them and if I'm not wrong, didn't we fucking buy 7 players in the summer- doesn't sound like making our own players to me, does it?

Fucks sake.

.

I know like Modric he's seen as a golden child unlike Berbatov who gets hate but you do know Bale pretty much refused to play for us to force through a move.

Agreed, he ended up on beaches in Spain in pink shorts when everyone else was getting back to training. Got pretty obnoxious and very unprofessional after a while.

At least GB said nothing- Modric actually came out and said he wanted to join Chelsea

Agreed and I'll give him that but at the end of the day he's the same as any other modern football and so basically a bit of a dick. Keeping him could have gone 2 ways and so him either getting his head down and playing well this season or sulking for most of it and suddenly dropping 25 million in value.

I think most people on this forum thought it was good value and with the money we had we should have made this squad much stronger. We probably have and it's certainly more balance but sadly we had a bit of a stubborn manager for over half the season.

i don't think bale has been 100% right since that injury against basel, i suspect if he were still here he wouldn't be performing at the level he was from january-april.

I think that ultimately Real Madrid were persistent to the point where Levy said "you can have him for €100m", thinking he was trolling them. Never in a million years would anyone have expected them to actually offer that!

I'm definitely not complaining

I'd rather have Bale. No point dragging it up now though, got to move on.

I would rather have the 7 signings than Bale but I think Levy has spouted a few bits of bullshit

This is BS surely?

"I easily would have turned down 125 million if.."

This just doesn't sound like the kind of thing DL would come out and say in public.

I think Levy would have turned down the money that was being offered. Think what you want of our dear chairman but I think he's smart enough to know the difference between a bird in the hand and seven in the bush. I do believe that RM used their dirty tricks (aka marca) to tap up and unsettle Bale. Saying things like 'you'll never get another chance to join a club like real madrid again' was sheer bollocks. A talent like bale (at his age too) could have joined any club on the planet at any time in the next few years. He believed the hype and ultimately threw away the chance to achieve something spectacular with us. If we had gone on to mount a title push this season we (and by extension he) would have made history. We were reported to have 40 mil to spend anyway. Just imagine our squad with just paulinho, eriksen and soldado or villa in the side in addition to bale. It would have been something. Alas that's ship has sailed. We really should let the whole Bale saga go now...
