I think one important point to note is that JTG is almost certain to have heard this ITK from a Chelsea source and NOT a Spurs one.

That puts a slightly different spin on things. I would firmly suggest that a Spurs ITK to this information would match SS57's two word response.

I think people have been acting pretty illogical over the Berbatov transfer regarding a few recurring points.

Why would it be bad to sell Berbatov to Man Utd or Chelsea? We won't even come close to them in the league for at least a few years and if we ever do, Berbatov will be retired by then. OK, so we play him two times in a year, oh boy, he also plays every other team in the league twice so it balances out. He'll beat up on Arsenal and Liverpool (selling Berbatov to one of these two WOULD be a disaster) just as much as he'll beat up on Spurs. If we have an offer of 30 million from Chelsea and 20 million from AC Milan, Levy will take the extra ten million.

We probably ARE looking for a swap as well. OK so we sell Berbatov for 35 million pounds, now every team we do business with is going to inflate their selling prices by at least a few million knowing we have a very large budget to work with.

Also we aren't handcuffed at all by any club regarding Berbatov's transfer unless he outright comes out and says "Sell me or I won't play". Which he won't because that's so Un-Berbatov I can't even imagine it. So basically if Spurs sell, it will be completely for whatever they wanted after hearing out every single offer they could. If no offer meets their valuation of Berbatov, then he stays. If an offer that's good enough comes in, he goes. I don't think Anelka and SWP improve our team enough (over Bent and Lennon) for this to be an acceptable offer. Especially at such an early stage where we haven't seen what else we might be offered.

The situation may be not as good as you present it as it seems that Berbatov can buy out his contract after next season. He will turn 28 in January and will have completed 3 years at the club by the end of next May. Potential buyers could say: take £20m now or we'll get him on Webster in a year's time.

If no club meets Spurs's valuation then this would mean that we have priced him out of the market, i.e. that we forced him to stay by asking for an unrealistic transfer fee. I'm not sure that he would simply say: OK, no problem.

Has anybody noted that swaps almost never happen and that ITK regarding swaps almost always turns out to be shite?

Yes?

Well, note it again.
I concur, we did it with Zamora for Defoe, but I can't think if too many over the years.

Quite. He's a top-quality striker. But there are major doubts as to what goes on inside his head, and just why would Chelsea want to get rid of him after less than six months, especially with the rumours that Drogba and Sheva are off?

I like SWP, too.

But the bottom line of this is, they're supposedly offering us two players they feel are surplus to requirements for our best player. My response would consist of two words, the second of which would be 'off'. Offer us Cole and Essien/Ballack, you might be talking.

What matters is not whether they are surplus to Chelsea's requirements. What matters is whether SWP and Anelka can do a good job for Spurs. That's debatable. I think that SWP and Anelka cost on the market £25m. If Chelsea pay £15m this would make a deal that amounts to £40m. So, the supposed deal cannot be that bad. The problem is whether Anelka and SWP are what Spurs need. Personally, I'm sceptical that such a deal will go through.

Why do these idiots bother posting this shit? They must do it for attention or something, or they need to feel big by being the starter of a big thread.

Biggest loads of bollocks I have ever heard. Anelka isn't going to agree to come to Spurs, that's for sure.

Like I said, Berbatov is more likely to stay than go.

For what its worth I really don't see any team being prepared to match our valuation £30m+. Therefore if Berbatov is not unhappy then we can expect to see him at the Lane next season, however if he really does want out then teams like Man Utd or Milan etc will try to force our hand for a better deal.

Very difficult to keep a player who is unhappy no matter what the length of his contract.

I expect him to leave for around £24mil - £26mil tbh.

None of these crazy exchange deals.

SWP is quality, I consider any opinion in the vain of "not the player he was" or such as utter bunkum

For me if we could get even £5m more for Berbs by selling to Chelsea or Man U rather than abroad it's fine by me - they are not our rivals they are in a different lge to us metaphorically if not literally - they'll finish top 4 next season Berbs or no Berbs

also considering so many Spurs fans have spent a lot of time dissing Berbs big time I should imagine lots of them would be grateful to sell him to anyone considering how they think he's not worth much, a sulker etc etc

In ways as a big Berbs fan I almost hope he goes to a Prem and shoves it right up the Berb bashers proverbials :) (as long as he doesn't knock us out of a cup or (very unlikely this) deprive us of a top 4 place)

I want Berbs to leave cos I'm sick of all the Berb bashing - I want to see him flourish where he can be appreciated and I want us to flourish too - using the Berbs cash to bolster our defence/mid as much as strike force

They can have Berbatov in exchange for Essien, Carvahlio, Shevchenko and Ballack.

Seriously though I would take Malouda and 25 Million

We have to keep with the hardball attitude if we're to sell hem domestically! I don't want Cudicini or Anelka. SWP would be okay, but I'm sure we could find better or equally as good abroad for a cheaper price.
