From my sources:

Villa: we have made contact and have a long standing "lets have a chat" situation. He is leaving Valencia and we are definitely an option in his eyes. As I said before he doesn't want to go to Chelsea, Utd etc and just take the cash. Genuinely wants to "help" a team get somewhere.

Etoo: Spanish press reporting our interest. My contact says many clubs have asked. 2 or 3 from England and Italian clubs too.

Ronaldinho: Still looks likely for Italy. Only interested in "big" clubs.

Thats all.

If Villa really has said that about the Chavs and the ManUre I might start to get my hopes up....

The info about the other two I don't see as huge news.

I could have sworn I read that in Marca last week? Anybody else read it?

I like the Villa quote in which he genuinely wants to go to a club and bring it up. From what I understand, he could have forced his exit from Valencia earlier but honoured a gentlemen's agreement to stay till end of season and I think that tells me this is a player who's character is as good as his play.

Someone worth breaking a bank over as he shows a clear head and a drive to build something up rather than have success ready made for him. Wants the harder route to prove his abilit. So get him in!

according to a reliable pod cast i know, sid lowe, he claimed that Villa believes he is due a big manoey move, would like to stay in spain ideally Real madrid but valencia will not sell to them(something to do with poaching players). So he maybe sold abroad, he did quote Ar****l

so if we could have villa or eto'o who would people prefer?

that's not to say I'm anything like convinced we're getting them.

Figure being quoted in the papers over the last couple of days was around £16mil, i'd bite their hands off, and try and use him and Modric to convince Berbatov to stay.

If those Villa quotes are genuine I'd rather have him than Eto'o, though Eto'o is a better footballer, as the latter is known for his difficult attitude.
Spanish press claim Citeh have an offer of €40m more or less accepted but Dinho only wants to join Milan, but they are only willing to pay paltry €15m.
Dinho is sure to leave Barca but I would presume the future of Eto'o depends on who's coach next year - as I doubt Rijkaard will be there (La Liga teams have long figured out how to stop his ways as his tatcits always seem to be the same no matter what).

interesting question posed by Kendall, whos the better option? Etoo or Villa?

Im not so sure Etoo is a better player, he sure is faster but im not convinced he has better striker qualities than Villa ie movement and finishing

I think Villa is better creatively, he looks to come deep tog et the ball, while Eto'o is the man to get on the end of things in the box.

WIth our current team (excluding Modric) we would need Villa as our strikers have to create a hell of a lot themselves because the centre mids dont create enough or get forward enough, and we dont put in enough crosses or through balls for someone like Eto'o, mainly because the strikers drop deep.

If Modric becomes the player we hope he does, Lennon keeps on improving and Gilberto/Bale/Someone else becomes a good option down the left, then Eto'o would be my choice as he will always be in the box looking to score and will, hopefully, get plenty of service. I also think, if we do keep Berbatov, Eto'o could be a better option to complement him and Keane, where Villa might be a bit too much like Keane.

But who am I kidding? I'd bite your hand off for either one of them, and I'm sure they are good enough to adapt and perform in whatever system we play

Not so mate, when Barca were at their pomp, he was all over the place and would collect the ball from inside channels. He is also more than capable of scoring from outside the box. He is a great number nine but he is no way a Lineker or a VN.

Yes I'm Ricky Villa today, better than Chris Waddle. Can I be David Ginola tomorrow?

Agreed Eto at times for Mallora and then Barca was much more than a CF in the usual mould. Eto works harder ad has more of an edge... true he is capable of implosion whereas Villa is a level headed player but in tough games agasint tough CB's ETo would fight dirty if he had to. Villa would not. Becasue of Eto's work rate he could play with Berbabtov.... villa and berbatov would be very... urmm enigmatic to put it a nice way. Villa and Keane would totally negate having wingers!!! Eto at least hangs in the air and has a grat leap to compensate for his megre stature.

I'd prefer Eto myself.

I think £16mil is low, Levy & Co. are the Berbatovs of negotiating but that would be an absolute steal. It strikes me as hard to believe--£20-25mil seems more likely to me, but then again I know fuckall for certain and am only guessing. If by some amazing struck of luck or stupidity on Valencia's part that was the actual price then I'm with you, nicdic. Jump bite snatch whatever, just get Villa in a Spurs kit!

Not surprised about Ronny.

Eto'o, if he were to go on the market for real, would be the subject of a biding war surely--Italy would be tempting for him...

Money is so fucked up in football at the moment, we could get him for £4m or £40m, £16m doesn't seem too unrealistic in today's market, but usually you'd expect it to be around the £23m mark. Especially when they forked out money last summer on players like Banega.

DC--you're probably right, but one can dream...[sigh] :)

Kyras, you've got a point--the team in crisis situation can go both ways, we can get players for nothing or they might feel the need to get as much as they can out their best assets knowing that they are headed for the shit.

...and I've always like Banega! Give him time, he's young and needs some time but has a lot of potential IMHO--needs to stop showing his doodle on the internet though...

To be honest I wouldn't complain if we got either of them. That being said I think that Villa will end up going to Real
