I’m an Irish guy who probably didn’t want England to win but at the same time I feel for this group of players. Fabulous tournament, England were fabulous but Italy deserved to win.

I don't find it horrific at all. There's beauty in England's technical superiority nearly ever time they play. There's beauty in how tactically precise and disciplined we are. There's beauty in not conceding a single goal in open play. There's beauty in Italy not really looking like scoring the whole game. There's beauty in trusting the team to not lose the game at the last.
There was nothing beautiful about the football played tonight. Other than the goal in the 2nd minute we were just sitting back. We’ve some of the best attacking players in the world sat on the bench. Then we sub Rice for Henderson ?‍♂️

Seeing the racial abuse of Saka in the above posts just reaffirms that the majority of this country are fucking ****s.

It’s a fucking game of football.

It’s one of the reasons why I have started to dislike international football. The faux patriotism, the any excuse to drink, the “gotta watch the game with the lads”, the total dismissal of current rules around lockdown.

Good old England…

Any excuse for a piss up, followed by shit behaviour, racial slurs, a punch up with another person that shares an IQ that starts with a decimal point, and…. I could go on.

Fuck off.

That’s a fine approach in our society, unfortunately it wouldn’t work in societies where there are oppressive regimes where any posts in opposition or against those in power would put that individual in extremely hot water. In these places, anonymity is essential to ensuring the populous is not completely silenced at least. This has always been the excuse used by social media companies anyway, whether they could adopt different policies for different countries I don’t know how viable that is

tbh, ‘our society’ is no bench mark. Some of the videos coming out tonight of England ‘fans’ waiting outside the gates for anyone in a blue shirt or any person of colour, just to punch and kick them to the ground, is utterly disgraceful. That’s in person, never mind the people behind a screen! I genuinely can’t fathom why some people think they can behave the way they do.

Not sure we are technically superior, physically yes, technically no. Players like Rice, Sterling, Phillips have the physical advantage of the Italian midfield but nowhere near the technical one, and tbh are found wanting in a technical sense. We trust the team not the lose your correct, but do we trust to win either?

England have been very Mourinho-esque and at times it felt like we were watching us from last season, it’ll get you so far but if you can’t adapt and change once teams have worked out your plan A you’ll ultimately fail, as we saw time and again last season

Small margins, a penalty miss or save you win or lose. Dont like pens unless you win them.

A fact I read this morning. Its happened four times now, Teams that didnt qualify for the world cup before, go on to win the Euros. Denmark, Czech, , Greece and now Italy. How football plays games with us all.

We all need to focus on Spurs , Im excited about Nuno and next season.

So true, you can see why the rest of Europe wanted Italy, we have a weird arrogance and superiority complex, abuse to rival fans (even children), boos of anthems, fights, trashing places

Of course, we are absolute pond life right now. But we do live in a democratic society with free speech, so in our case social media absolutely should enforce ID confirmed accounts. But the blanket excuse from these companies as to why this isn’t in place refers to countries without these liberties. There must be a reason why it can’t change from country to country, because something must change

Forgive me if this offends anyone and it's just my opinion, but I thought the difference between the two managers for the final was that Southgate looked at it from the "How can I stop Italy causing us problems" point of view whereas with Mancini it was a case of "How can I cause England the most problems".
You definitely have a team capable of beating anyone on the day but Gareth needs to let the players off the leash a bit earlier in matches and take a more offensive stance.

I expect many of you were sitting baffled just after the hour mark and wondering when you'd see some subs warming up. I know that's what I was dreading happening but Gareth hesitated and that turned out to be costly.

Rashford and Sancho....didn't think either looked particularly confident stepping up. Can't imagine it's that easy to come off the bench with a minute left in a highly charged situation with no opportunity to really get a touch/feel of the ball. Then stepping up to take a pen with a giant like Donnarumma making the goal look tiny. Rashford seemed to take an absolute age to take his kick and thought at the time his head was probably scrambled. Saka's was a poor penalty but end of the day it's a 19 year old kid stepping up in the finals of the Euro's so fair play for taking one.

Overall, thought our endeavour and effort in the first half got the better of the Italian midfield but that was always going to be difficult to maintain over the 90 mins. In the second half, they got to grips with it and their more technical midfield players (especially Veratti) came to the fore and were much better operating in tighter spaces with less time available and took over control in there. Knew Italy had a lot of the ball but still surprised we only had 34% possession.

This team has had a solid tournament, not let many goals and beat some decent teams on the way to the final so not all doom and gloom. However, really believe if it had a technical player or two in midfield today (no idea what Mount was meant to be offering today. Looked a complete passenger), with the ability to look after the ball in tight spaces and give the team control and a release, they would have beaten the Italians in normal or extra today. Italy have the experience in defence, technical ability in midfield but in the final third, apart from the impressive Chiesa and maybe Insigne at a push, didn't think they were great.

I mean, that clearly is not the River Thames. Best not to share unsubstianted rumours from some random person with 2 followers on twitter.

Hes a good player but I feel hes more of a worker who can make late runs into the box than a creative player.
Yea but you miss the point. He’s in the team because Southgate knows he’ll drop back into midfield to help Rice and Phillips. It’s his defensive qualities that get him in the team. Southgate like too many England managers is frightened of midfield players who are too attack oriented which is why Grealish, Sancho and even Foden have seen so little game time. Problem is we do not really have a quality creative CM player. Not sure he’d get a game if we did.
