Pretty sure that BBC and Sky just use the same footage.

The real reason most people like the higher position is that it's familiar, it's not ideal, but it is familiar, and we don't like change. Both gantrys have benefits. The lower one does make you feel closer to the action, the camera is closer, it is in one sense more like being at the game. Likewise in a sense, the higher one is more like being at the game, you can see more of the pitch. Hey guess what?! Watching on the TV isn't the same as being at the game! That's part of why going is so much fun! I personally am happy with either angle, just glad to get to watch the game, all this fuss is pretty lame and self-important.

The low angle is awful. Genuinely awful. The higher angle may seem 'too remote' but the fact is it makes it far easier to appreciate what's actually happening in the game.

We should watch it on a blimp cam, then we'd see what was going on.

just put my name down for the next space launch. Im gonna see everything from the moon! Fuck Yeah!

I think there is an over reaction to the angle, i quiet enjoy seeing the game from a different angle/perspective. I do like the high angle, but as Nic said, could be due to it being what we are use to.

What is this about seeing the whole pitch I don't keep looking at the whole pitch when I'm at the grround I follow the action like everybody else, as long as the cameras follow the action quickly enough then there shouldn't be a problem. The logical whole pitch option is a top down from above but that would be dreadful, sorry I just don't see that argument.

I can't believe I just read through the whole thread. I'm not keen on the camera angle either but resorting to calling someone at ITV a liar and then creating petitions is a bit exteme isn't it? Especially the former.

Seriously? First off one guy said he may be disguising the truth because of money, hardly the biggest insult in the world is it, if hes offended by that, or anyone in fact they can go man up and get a grip.

Creating a petition to get something the majority want changed but a minority are too stubborn to change because of personal opinions is extreme? What? If he won't listen because her personally prefers the camera angle what the hell do you want us to do if a petition, A PETITION is to extreme? Send him fucking cookies and cake?

nobody is saying let us see the whole pitch, we'd just like to see whats happening beyond the middle of the pitch, quite often the ball gets hidden behind players because of how low the camera is and when it's in and around the box it's almost impossible to keep up with whats going on at times. There is absolutely no potential for appreciation of space and movement with the low angle either. It's all been explained time and again anyway so i wont go on much more.

Familiarity is certainly an element, but generally a higher angle simply offers a better view. You get more of an idea of the trajectory of a shot, that sort of thing. The angle at New Wembley I find is too low, the angle at White Hart Lane perhaps a tad high but it doesn't bother me. Old Trafford has an optimum angle IMO.

This is exactly it.

Many in this thread are completely getting the wrong idea, simply assuming by asking for the higher angle we all want a stupidly high bird's eye angle etc. In reality the best angle is actually in between both but we can't have that and the low angle is quite simply pathetic leaving us with the high one or a terrible one.

It's a TV angle!!! There are more important things to worry about. Also look at the first post, he accuses ITV of lying. I don't know about you but if I accuse someone of lying then I make sure i've got plenty of evidence before I do it (i'd lose my job if I didn't).

I think the bit where he said "someone here is [lying]" was the bit where he accused them of lying.

Also, did he really start a petition? Haha!

Well, the fact that ITV had said that it was the only option given to them by the club, and the club had said ITV had chosen it from the options available... someone clearly was lying...

Can we add "short replay of team bus arriving at ground" in the middle of match coverage as probably being unnessecary, to our list of complaints on this ever burgeoning ITV petition?

Football is entertainment. The way it is presented to me matters.

Actually it doesn't seem as bad this time - I think because Inter are not closing us down as much as Lyon did.
