The signing for Arsenal to take themselves to the next level is Osimhen, that's the only realistic signing they could make that would worry me. Toney would be similar to the Aubameyang signing. He may do well initially but it won't last and it'll end in tears IMO.
He’ll keep scoring regardless of people on here disliking him imo
Talent does not equate to personality

What if he’s been rehabilitated?
I think trying to judge players by their personalities is quite difficult as we have to accept we're removed from the situation and the soundbites we get are not a true representation of anyone's character.

What I've seen and heard of from Toney are several warning lights but his performances seem to be pretty consistent so I wouldn't completely write him off on his personality.

I do think the transfer fee is too much for a player that I don't rate as being genuinely top drawer though.

I have no love for the guy either way. But who hasn’t been a raging dickhead in their 20’s?

so many gambling cos in football and then everyone is mock shocked when a high profile addict comes out. Hypocrisy.

people glossed over Rafa and his spousal abuse. Hugo and his drink / driving and numerous other discretions by players.

everywhere you turn in football it’s gamble gamble gamble. Yet when someone does as it says on the tin to a ridiculous degree he’s a cock ? It’s an addiction and if you can forgive one addiction you should forgive all.

I don't think the issue is purely about his gambling.

There was a video of him being very arrogant and talking shit about his club.

As I said previously, it's not enough for me to completely write him off. But the possible issues aren't just about his gambling.

Nah. I got your point. All cool.

I just think people deserve a second chance. Maybe he flourishes under a new manager / team and the dickheadedness abates.

If we sign him and he scores goals then all his shit talk will be forgotten.

If he signs for Arsenal and they win the league because of his goals at least we'll have a genuine reason to hate him!!

I don´t really worry too much about his gambling addiction (or not). There are two things that should be more important: style of play/abilities + character.

Yes! I know! Most people will say character is linked to the gambling thing. But that´s not my point: it is more if he has the right professionality, the right personality to realy be a top, top athlete. One that will do his uttermost to be the best he can be - for himself and as a team member. I have a few questionmarks tbh when it comes to this.

Most importantly to me is the fact that most seem to forget: his style of play. He´s never been part of a ball playing team with technical and possession based style of play. Brentford is one of the most defensive and counterattack teams in the PL! He fit their style as a glove - or them his. I honestly don´t see him in neither our nor Arsenal´s team as anything close to the perfect fit - rather far from it imho.

On top of that: He´s 27 and will be 28 in March. He has had two seasons in the premier league. The rest of his career has been in the lower divisions. His first season in the PL he scored 12 goals, while in the second he got 20 goals. Both seasons after 33 games. He´s had one great season in the Championship, and one quite good in League One (after several not so great). And now he hasn´t played for a full half season. He will be rusty. But more importantly: he might not be so golden that many seem to believe.

Tbh I think he's a very very good player and not many better strikers around who know the PL who can get goals and assists who can shoot well but also good in the air and at hold up play and have some pace, he's really a fantastic player but its his personality that worries me.

All that being said I think he'd favour a move to Arsenal as isn't he a boyhood Arsenal fan?

If they signed him he could make the difference to push them towards the title but then again if we get our business right I think we will be stronger than them moving forwards anyway.

Ultimately if you rate him or not he is supposedly valued somewhere between £70-100 mil currently. We are not paying that, certainly not this window and probably not even in summer.

I have major concerns over his character and attitude but it’s sort of moot really as he is too rich a signing for us.

Toney will soon be 28 years old, with 18 month left on his contract and have not played football for 8 months.

Brentford are not getting £70-100m for him, IMO.

If they wait to the summer his value drops but I can see Brentford demanding a premium to sell him in January. Especially if Arsenal or Chelsea are interested this window- neither are exactly shy about overpaying for players.

He’s too old for Chelsea.

arrogant, obnoxious, loves social media almost as much as he loves himself. General wankerish demeanor. He was born to play for Arsenal.

Irrespective of his gambling issues and apparent lack of contrition thereto, his overall demeanour is that of an entitled man-child. Can't see Ange wanting him anywhere near his squad.
