Am I not the only one thinking he will be so far off the pace with zero match practice (or indeed full training), that bringing him in in January would be pointless?

Also, given that he's taken zero responsibility for his actions, I very much think he'd do it again, and for that reason alone (never mind the him being a massive bellend reason), I'm out.

A couple thoughts amidst the moral grandstanding:

His arrogance doesn't bother me in the slightest. If the manager wants him and he can respect the badge, be a decent teammate and score goals than we should bring him in. Simple as that.
If any of our players were to say "Fuck Tottenham" (their employer) on camera in order to get their end away with a "you'll never find another like me" girl, I think that says enough about his character. I think we've had enough issues recently by not supposedly doing enough digging into the personality type of some of our signings.

He's allowed to train again next month. Agree with second part. Don't want him

I don't think people have a huge problem with arrogance. All great players have it (not saying he's one of them).

"Fuck Brentford" doesn't really scream, to me, that he can "respect the badge".

Absolutely… it actually says the complete opposite!

Perhaps there is more to it than we know about. Perhaps he is a total knob. Regardless, I would imagine under AP that the due diligence being done is levels above that of our past few managers/staff.

I can’t say I like or agree with what he said.

But that alone shouldn’t be a deal breaker.

I just think he likely falls below standards and the fee being asked is ridiculous.

Surely a lot of professional footballers / athletes have to have a certain arrogance about them to get them to where they are.

I listened to the interview. He should have owned his mistakes, I agree. But you’re missing the other points in the interview. He backs himself massively, and wants to be that Number 1 player in the team. Surely that’s a trait you’d want in a striker. He scored 20 goals last season and was 3rd top goal scorer behind Haaland and Kane.

Yes he is a bit of a bellend, especially growing up, but I’m guessing most of us who came from nowhere, moved away from their family at 18 and had so much money that they didn’t know what to do with, would also probably act in the same way.

Whilst I don’t think we would get him and maybe he doesn’t appeal to Ange after what’s happened. But someone like Ange could be good for him.

I seem to remember hearing similar things about Maddison before he moved from Norwich and Leicester, that he was a bellend. Look how that turned out.

"moral grandstanding"

What are you talking about? He clearly doesn't respect Brentford's badge and hasn't been a good teammate either. And we don't know that Ange wants him at all, he probably doesn't. How is that moral grandstanding?

Again, could be more going on than we know. Maybe he doesn't feel he's getting support from Brentford with his addiction. We simply don't know.

We don't know if Ange wants anyone we've been linked with. He isn't the type of manager to go public with supposed targets. We have had ITK said we had a look at him and his past so there was clearly some interest at some point.

Moral grandstanding since you don't know what it means: "the use and abuse of moral talk to seek status, to promote oneself, or to boost your own brand"

As long as Toney is made to understand that there are certain baselines of expected behaviour , then it's a no-brainer. Some of the most elite athletes are the most arrogant, selfish assholes. Just watch The Last Dance (all about Michael Jordan). Jordan is clearly the most insane narcissist but also the most gifted basketball player of his generation. As long as you have a strong captain of the ship (Ange) channeling that person's energy and drive into the team goal, then it works.

I know what moral grandstanding/virtue signaling are and loathe the use of them. They are terms that those with certain political viewpoints use to justify immoral or bad behavior and call out those that are against it.

I trust Ange to make the right decision on Toney and his character. It's a major building block in how he likes to build teams so I don't think he'll be fooled just because he can score goals.

Well, he's not coming to us (at least not this window) so let's keep the bandwagon rolling..
