A quick wiki search suggests he was born in Birmingham and has lived in England his whole life.

No mention of his parents though.

Surely someone living in this country from birth can feel English, no?

Of course they can its more to do with representing Ireland at all the youth levels and then deciding to switch to England when he had a bit more exposure...i suppose we dont have many shining lights in the team.

No i am not bitter at all :cautious::cautious:

Some of his grandparents are/were Irish I believe.

Yes that is what my my Wiki search showed.

Irish grandparents, no mention of parents, born in England and lived here his whole life.

Calling him Judas and turncoat based on that is disgusting.

Thanks for the extra info.

Essentially he was a youth hoping to become a pro. This involves getting the best coaching, playing for the best teams and if given the opportunity to compete at international level.

So I can’t blame him for that. If feels English and wants to play for England then I fail to see what he has done wrong.

Unless we live in a society that completely hangs people out to dry for things they did as a kid. In this case not even a bad thing.

Of course he can do as he chooses and identifies with whatever country he wants...its more to do with representing Ireland at youth level and of course us thinking we had a proper talent coming through at a time when our football made Stoke look like Brazil of the 70’s. And as soon as he started making headlines he decided he wanted to play for England (probably more to do with exposure) ...i dont have any malice towards him and was more a throwaway comment to be honest.

I just dont like the cut of his jib.

I guess on the plus side, if the team ever did a mid-season camp in Tenerife, Grealish knows all the roads.

Well Sessegnon is 18, Grealish is 22.

True but at 18 i think he looked better than sess does at 18 (again based on three games for sess). At 18 he didn't have a professional attitude to football which resulted in some stagnation, but if he has matured i think there's far more raw ability to work with.

He was 14 years old. You're going to hold it against him for his whole life?

Yeah i burn effigies of him every single night before bed...obviously not but he played at U21 level so i suppose it was a reasonable expectation to think he was going to play for the seniors. I remember a few years back he was tweeting “massive game...COYBIG” before a qualifierr with all the shamrocks etc...like i said it was more a throwaway comment and i dont really care about him its only seeing us linked i commented on it.

Wouldnt really understand shelling out on grealish when you have the likes and quality of winks and Oakley booth pushing there way through.. Grealish hasn't got the best temperament and apparently a bit of a Twat of the pitch too.
Far better investments for our money out there IMHO.

I remember a similar conversation with a friend regarding Lennox Lewis.

Lewis was born in England lived here until he was 12, moved to Canada with his parents and trained in a gym.

Was given an opportunity to fight in the Olympics, he was hardly going to turn that down was he?

As an adult he fought for England as that is what he feels he is. My friend thinks because he fought for Canada at amateur level that is what he is for life.

We moan about immigrants not integrating into British life, then when their children and grandchildren do to an extent they feel English or British we still vilify them.

Thanks for clarifying. Not easy to determine the extent of someone’s feelings by the written word.

Calling someone Judas or turncoat can be pretty serious if meant seriously but also as a throwaway comment.

I don’t really want to get into the whole Republic-NI thing but we have a mixed Rugby team and i suppose everyone feels they are Irish one way or another (Republic or Northern Irish) regardless of Religious or political divides.

Pretty petty to get at him for tweets when he played for Ireland. If he'd never tweeted anything at all, he'd probably get slated for not caring.
You’re worse than my wife looking for an argument, i put them tweets in there for context as i said i dont hold any malice to him and he can do what he pleases. I believe the reason he switched was nothing to do with what nation he identifie with and more to do with what country would further his footballing stature...thats his perogative.
