Anyone on here who didn't think O'Hara would have been good enough to be a squad player for us, clearly has the old our tenth choice isn't functioning properly abd adequate as a member of our squad if he isn't a Pele-Jennings-Beckinbauer-Terminator hybrid, with a bit of the Heston Blumenthal thrown in. And that really is a ridiculous attitude.

Squad players are there to cover for the first choice. Sure, it would be nice if they could push the first choice for the starting place, but, sadly, anyone who is as good as, say VDV, isn't really going to be happy sitting on the bench. Squad players also fall into two categories. Firstly, there are the specialists, a bench needs a goalkeeper, for instance, and a striker. Given that there are only a finite number of bench places, and even more finite number of substitutions that can be made, this makes the second group even more important. And that second group consists of players who are versatile engough to cover more than one place. A versatile defender comes in handy, as does a versatile midfielder. A striker capable of filling in on the flanks is also worth having. Obviously, being squad players, and being versatile, you have to accept a slight reduction in quality.

In the case of O'Hara, he could cover the left-back, and wing positions, and also provide a bit of bite, but also a bit of offensive quality in central midfield - and chip in with some goals. Unfortunately, he wasn't happy being a squad player - but why any Spurs fan would have been unhappy with him being a squad player if he had been prepared to do so, that's beyond me.
I remember a FA cup game we played against Man U when Ramos was in charge, Ohara was fantastic at left back that day, he kept Ronaldo quiet.

I was very disappointed to see him leave - but like I said, he was insistent that he wanted first team football, and he just wasn't good enough in any one position to displace any of our first choicers. Pity, because having a player like him may just have tipped the balnce in the second half of last season, and I would still see him as a major asset now, as a squad player.

I wouldn't make thatr something against Livermore, however, as he is also a decent squad member - and, unlike O'Hara, he hasn't, as of yet, kicked up about being on the bench.

Bump.

Fantastic game tonight from one of our own.

Cost nothing. Can do a job. Happy to fill in in three different positions. Couldn't ask for more really.

Thought he was excellent today. Stepped in, made some top interceptions, always kept his passing neat, he looks pretty strong battling in there with Fellaini.

I think we have found our own Darren Fletcher.

Have to agree. I was worried he'd be another sideways and backwards passing Jenas but he really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck today, very impressed....

Much improved. Did his job well and didn't give the ball away like he has in previous games. Credit where it's due, though Everton didn't exactly pressure us.

I thought he was very good tonight. He has good positional sense, and seemed to gain confidence as the game went on. Showed a far bit of toughness considering the way Everton play.

Great job tonight, nothing special but didn't need to be. We'll find it difficult to keep a better player happy in our midfield.

I remember when my mate Terry was the next big thing at Spurs, the only player in the same age group as Tel who was progressing at the same rate and getting into the teams Terry was getting in to (reserve side at 16/17 etc) was Jake. Tel's career has been fucked by injury but it's good to see Jake making it.

Two games in a row he was more than solid and quality in possession (that one cross field ball aside!).

He is quiet, but in a very good way. Got his head down and did his job very well.

I think people need to realise that Harry sees Livermore playing with and against Modric, Vdv and Bale etc in training everyday and if he looked out of his depth he would be moved on.

Didn't have to make the Sandro type last ditch challenges, because our shape in general was good, and their chances came from rickets at the back and not so much from midfield.

Some intelligent FORWARD movement off the ball too, which goes unnoticed.

I've knocked him of late, but it was better.

Is Dixon still at the Spammers or has injury curtailed his career completely?

He was brilliant tonight, looked quality, best ive seen him play.

Didn't think he had it in him; glad to be proved wrong.

He looks much better playing that disciplined Sandro-esque role than he does when further forward. I hope he's taking tips from both him and Parker.

thought he was average in the 1st half, seemed to be the more attacking mid for some reason while mods stayed deep. wasnt getting any challenges in, his forward runs resulted in nothing.

2nd half thought he was good, did the job of a holding midfielder, got tackles in, covered, kept it simple. much improved

i may get crucified for saying this but so what...I think alot of average players would look quite good in our side playing at home. Reminds me a little of arsenal in there heyday when they could bring in their reserves and still play teams off the pitch. I'd like to Gio, carrol and falque get some game time at home games like that

Heh fun reading this thread, he's gone from shit and not worthy of playing for Spurs to a great backup. Amazing what a few games and a bit of confidence can do for players. :)
