He'll come in to replace Hudd or Scotty I'd imagine, good business IMO, cracking player.

People arent happy with this it seems? I think for 8-10m hes a good signing and I have no doubt If we have bid then its not instead of a striker. Trust them!

I really like him as a player, hope we get him. Better not affect our pursuit of Benteke though.

Seems odd that Everton were told £12m wasn't enough and they want closer to £20m...

Hmmmn....

The more I think about it the more this makes sense, especially with Pjanic looking like staying at Roma. Anyone who has read up on AVBs philosophy will understand that he likes all his central midfielders to be 'mobile pressers'. Able to press, tackle and distribute the ball effectively and quickly - McCarthy fits this bill. If we assume Carroll is going out on loan and also that we will be playing 433 this will mean we have the following midfield options.

SANDRO, DEMBELE, PAULINHO, HOLTBY, SIGURDSSON,

if we are looking for two players for each position then there would be space for McCarthy.

Wouldn't say no, but I would prefer us to sign a central striker, left forward and left back before we got in another centre mid.

Anything above £10m, especially from a relegated club, feels like a rip-off as well.

Just ask Anzhi forking out £12million for Samba! :ROFLMAO:

Assuming there's no Livermore, Huddlestone or Parker - I'd'be surprised to see us (manage to) sell all three; though maybe we're looking at a premiership loan for Livermore?

Nail on head, all of that is exactly the way I see it. Makes logical sense when you think of AVB and what he likes. And yes, for me, Carroll will definitely be out on loan.

MCcarthy is not quite the finished article having said that, every time i see him playing for ireland he looks better and better ,he has a great eye for a pass and with the players we have in midfield i have no doubt he would be a great signing

You haven't got a clue what our budget is.

neither do you. but i'm going to err on the side of history. history which suggests we ain't got much to spend.

even ignoring that, james mccarthy is and never will be good enough to be a regular starter for thfc so what's the point? we already have scott parker for the limited quality run and try hard role.

If it is £15 million it will be more structured than most transfer deals with clauses like Cl appearances etc.

Would like McCarthy.

Surprised people are so quick to trust paper talk on player's prices and offers made/rejected.

Would be shocked of we payed more than 8-12m on him.
