I can't believe all this. The shite newspress publicise something and (fickle) people believe it. Think for a minute. Jan and Gareth and everyone else are part of a team, that last year, almost made what the were aiming for! They know how close they are. And with the new additions, must be buzzing. Forget the money stuff. After only one season, Jan will want to drive our team to be the best. Human nature!

Well seeing this thread pop up scared the shit out of me. Not surprised the big boys are looking at our players, we are building one hell of a team. Surely we wouldn't sell Jan...

Jan's not like that, good loyal pro.
He showed and got a lot of respect with the Ajax support.

We need to get use to this, its a compliment that we are purchasing and developing well.

If no one looks at your lady , she's ugly :p

I have no reason to doubt you - but I want players to be totally committed, not ticking off the games till their off

This was more a Bale observation should he stays next season!

Night all off to the land of nod

This is bullshit.

I saw a blog on Newsnow this morning titled:

"How long before Barcelona or Manchester United go after Tottenham's Jan Vertonghen?"

Evidently one of those excuses for journalists decided this was a good idea for a story.

Yup. In hindsight, I'm amazed we had such a clear run at him last summer.

He was Captain of Ajax, clearly a very good defender who's excellent on the ball and a leader too. With the warrior Puyol getting injured more frequently, and Pique having some dips in form, Barca really needed another CB but made no efforts to get one.
Especially when the transfer dragged on. I'm very surprised we got him, and Lloris too. You don't need to be a professional football scout to know these lads were/are top quality. Got them for good prices too.

I doubt Jan is at that stage just yet. Maybe another season or 2 of treading water and he'll start seeing eyeing new pastures.

You have to throw the World Cup into the mix as well, settled players like I believe Jan is are unlikely to want to move now for 2 reasons! Firstly they don't want to go somewhere, not settle and risk their WC place and secondly if they have a stormer in Brazil then their wage and signing on value soars to potential suitors.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did bid, but i'd be stunned if we sold him, however high the bid was, considering the current plethora of limping disasters that is our little crop of defenders. We'd just be left too short.

So, you bunch of tika-takaing Lilliputians, you can piss right off.

This is why we must not sell Bale and get CL next season. If we don't do it this time round i'm pretty sure we'll hear a few more starting to make noises, particularly Jan and Hugo who are ambitious players. The more we sell our best players the more we fail to progress and then it becomes a cycle where we are stuck just out of the top four.

'It is not that big a problem,' Vertonghen said. 'It would be nice but I chose for the club not just one season.

'For me it is important the connection with the club. They give me a very good feeling about everything.

'They invited me over and they also really want to close a deal, which is what gave me a good feeling.

'They showed me everything about where they want to be in the next few years and that is what I like most.'

“Does it matter that Tottenham are in the Europa League? No, not that much,” he said.
“You don’t just join for one season.” http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...s-Arsenal-and-Newcastle-for-amazing-Tottenham

I dont believe for a second that we will sell Verts but I have gotten to a place where I really despise the TW. It has gone downhill for years now but this year really pushed me over the side. And a shame that is really as we have had our best incomming TW for a long time.

1 really essential detail that would make everybodys life a hell of alot easier is to end the TW in July so that all the teams can spend the first 2 weeks in August to ready themselves for first match. Having TW open after season starts make no sense what so ever.

Its down to the player these days.........we know this.

The hell it is with just over a week for the season opener. Players lose their power to force a move more and more as the days grow closer to the end of the market.

It seems to me that there are those out there in football's financial/media fantasy land that are positively shitting their pants at the prospect of the mighty Spurs usurping one of their moneyed favourite clubs and claiming a place in the CL or, dare I say it, winning the EPL, just imagine how funny that would be!!! COYS
