It seems very un-Spurs-like to me, talking so openly about potential targets.

Hope it's true and can go somewhere.

The relevant sentences are [my emphasis]:

Now Poyet, who is Juande Ramos' right-hand man, has spoken openly to prevent any more rumours, although it remains to be seen how Espanyol take the news.

"Kameni and Jarque are very interesting players and every player that is interesting is welcome at a club like Tottenham," he told RAC1's ‘Primer toc’ (First Touch) programme.

"Both are on a long list of players that the sporting director has and that the club is looking at to strengthen the squad.

I'm sure both Kameni and Jarque are on a "long list" of potential goalkeepers and CBs that we may try to sign in the summer.

Kameni is crazy. Great shot stopper, but he's dodgier off his line than Robbo. Plus he handles the ball like a bar of soap.

Exactly what we don't need.

Jarque I'd take as he's better than dawson and we can't be guaranteed as to WoodLeds fitness.

as soon as anyone says a goalie is "a great shot-stopper" it sets off alarm bells and normally means they're not very good at anything else!

Not so much that, he makes James look a proper wilting violet. Whereas people scream at Robbo to get off the line, they'd be screaming at the Ayatollah to stay put. He nearly put Song out of the game in the ACN final. (Actually, it might have been a good idea if he had put Song out.) Total loony.

Yup, but you in particular, SS57, would love the singing if the Ayatollah came to WHL....

This reminds me of a Sid Waddell gem from many years ago. When John Lowe was on the point of winning the World Darts Championship the inimitable Sid (who, as Clive James said of Murray Walker, sounds like a man with his trousers on fire even in moments of calm) screamed: 'When he gets back to Chesterfield it's gonna be like the Ayatollah Khomeini's walked into town!'

I always did wonder how the folk of Chesterfield would have reacted to the Ayatollah's arrival in their midst.

Yes, great scope for chants. 'There's only one Ayatollah', or (nicked from Not the Nine o' Clock News'), 'Ayatollah, don't Kameni closer, Or I'll fall into your arms.'

We should sign him for that reason alone.

I'm still convinced the only reason a young Scot named Ally Dick made a few fleeting appearances on our left wing was because the Shelf just rocked whenever he played....

SS57, your entire post was good stuff! :)

I'm just shocked Gus would say that to the media. That's not how we like to do business (or be seen to do business). I reckon he'll have gotten a ticking off for that back at base if it's accurate .You know how these interviews/stories get twisted/translated badly....

Gutting for Robbo if he did actually say it.

Take it with a pinch of salt.. Its a pretty easy rumour to make up.. A new goalkeeper and a defender and from Spain.. And as mentioned its not like Spurs to talk about targets.. Although poyet has talked about Woodgate and Downing earlier this season..

Kameni is too young to start IMO. i'd much prefer Amelia than Kameni. Amelia is the older player, with loads more experience. its really not good to have an inexperienced keeper.

But if every1 had that opinion there would be no goalkeepers as no 1 would pick the inexperienced ones!!!! They would be like Dinosaurs

i dont mean literally completely ignore all young/inexperienced goalkeepers. but we shouldn't have a young goalkeeper as our number 1 keeper.

Kameni really isn't all that inexperienced - he's first-choice keeper for Espanyol and the Cameroon national team...his play-style is just radical.

What is uncanny is that I was about to make a comparison between Kameni and James. I think they are very similar. They will both make mistakes from being overly positive and both are tall, athletic and good/sometimes great shot stoppers. I used to mock James but a combination of him maturing and me realising that that combination is prefferable to the timid, tubby, unathletic Robinson and the decidedly average Cerny has changed my mind.

I think it's safe to say a keeper and centre half are on their way in the summer.

Yeah I kinda agree about Kameni, I was less than impressed with his ACN form...he's pretty good but doesn't seem to be a huge improvement over what we have now.

As for Jarque, what are his chances of starting regularly with us? Are we assuming that he is going to stand in for Leds? Where does that leave Dawson? Furthermore: next year is Kaboul's year, he is getting better and better--quote me on that and rub it in my face if/when I am wrong.
