Makoun is their best player, but Bodmer was and is a very commanding CM. They suffered badly without him in the first half of the season, but since they got Mavuba in January he and Makoun have formed a great partnership and Lille have shot up the table.

How we missed out on Bodmer and Keita and got Bong instead beats me.

I know Bodmer as a very good player and definitely a player that a few of us wanted to sign for Spurs. What a steal for Lyon but as you mention later - it must have been a foregone conclusion that he wanted to sign for them!

if this guy is a big step up from zokora id be happy for us to get him in. But zokora probably looked quite good in ligue 1 too didnt he?

i watched the pompey fulham game the other day and diarra overall looked quite good. Some nice passes long and short and some good breaking up. him being french vs makoun being cameroonian could well be a plus to getting diarra instead

I imagine so. I've only been watching a fair bit of Ligue 1 this season since Setanta started showing it. But Makoun's played very well againsy United in the CL, too.

Robinson

Hutton -- Woodgate -- King -- Bale

Zokora -- Makoun

Lennon -- Jenas -- Modric

Berbatov

In that team, hopefully Robinson would be replaced... and perhaps both Jenas and Lennon, but as this is the Makoun thread, I thought I'd only have him as the currently non-Spurs player. :)

There will be a rather large hole in front of our back four when the ACN comes round.

Um... maybe switch to 4-4-2 when that happens... Same players with Keane up front and someone else in central midfield with Jenas, or Hudd in there somewhere or Steed on the left. I dunno. *runs*

Lille midfielder Jean II Makoun has today confirmed to l'Equipe that he will leave the club he joined six seasons ago and with which he took part twice in the Champions League. Arsenal (which would be his preference) and Juventus in particular are lined up for his signature. “What's most important for me is to develop," said the 25-years-old Cameroon international. "I believe that the Lille supporters will understand. It could be good for the club, too.”

In addition to the interest from England and Italy, Jean II Makoun is also wanted by other Ligue 1 clubs, including Lyon, Marseilles and Monaco, writes l'Equipe.

does this formation, 4-2-3-1, we all keep talking about make as better defensively?

in my opinion teams tend to do it to score goals. this isnt a problem for us though...

That 4-2-3-1 would help us defensively because it would make it easier for us to control the midfield, which is where we often get overrun at times. Also it makes it easier to cover for Hutton and Bale when they charge forward. Makoun and Zokora have a lot of athleticism, and I think that would work quite well. If that above formation was what we went into next year with I'd be fine, except for Robinson, and even then I wouldn't be terrible disappointed.

I don't think lennon, jenas or keane can play as 1 of the attacking three in a 4-2-3-1 which makes the formation unlikely

Did anyone else actually read the bit about Arsenal being his preferred destination?

If that's true, then this thread is totally pointless.

And refutes the ITK about Makoun and the other bod signing Friday.

I was wondering how long it would take for someone to point that part out. Didn't sound good. Maybe we should send him a picture of the Carling Cup or the Ar5ena1 scoreboard.
