next summer it is quite feasible that both berbs and defoe will be gone which would leave us with only keane and bent which is a pretty worrying thought.

its something the club must be tackling now one way or another.

Th...
Ah forget it, too many jokes

Y'know I always have to check in my head before saying that cause either way - Bent and Keane / Keane and Bent it sounds rude (to those with dirty minds anyway which is a lot of people I know!).

He's way too hot and cold and I don't think anywhere near as good as what we've got.

We learned a lesson last season when he scored against us in both meetings. He also got a warning before he signed for Newcastle, when he scored against us while playing for Inter at White Hart Lane. He is more than good enough for us, and we can use him as a left winger aswell. He would give us more options than we have now with Defoe.

Defoe needs to sign that contract and show his full commitment, otherwise, we have to sell him to get the money to be able to replace him.

I think Defoe's been treated harshly-on the bench and given the odd 10 Min's per-game to bump up his appearance record.

Jol's come out and made a comment 'If you sign the contract you'll play', strange he hasn't said the same thing to Berbatov.

Defoe is a player I love to watch, even as much as Berbatov for different reasons....his a live wire.

Yeah but that wasn't always hard with last year's leaky defence and our 'we will score more than you policy'.

Agree about Defoe that he needs to sign a contract or be sold before it runs down.

Still don't think we need Martins and I don't think it would work playing him as a left winger in the same team as Lennon - plus I've never known him to do this for Newcastle?

No thanks, I'd rather use Bale there or purchase a real left winger.

am i reading too much in to this ?

If we do get rid of Defoe we could do a lot worse than bring in Martins, his pace will cause any team problems. I think there is a lack of good quality strikers around at the moment.

CHELSEA and Spurs are haggling over a swap deal involving Shaun Wright-Phillips and Jermain Defoe.

And SunSport can reveal the transfers are being held up over the valuation of Defoe.

Manchester United are lurking in the wings and are weighing up a bid to sign Tottenham ace Defoe.

The Blues want a straight swap but Spurs insist their striker is worth SWP plus around £4million.

Both players have agreed to the switch although the clubs remain at loggerheads over the details. Chelsea enquired about Defoe, 24, and were asked if they would consider making winger Wright-Phillips, 25, part of the deal.

A proposal without cash was put forward and then scuppered by Spurs.

They cited Chelsea had agreed a £10.5m fee for SWP with West Ham and Aston Villa in the last transfer window but the player refused to move. Spurs have so far rebuffed all offers for England hitman Defoe and claimed his valuation is £15m.

The deal remains on ice until one of the London rivals offers a compromise.

But officials at both sides are prepared to let it go to Friday’s transfer deadline.

That may leave room for United to make a cash-only bid. If Defoe moves to Stamford Bridge, it could allow striker Andriy Shevchenko to return to AC Milan.

Defoe’s current deal expires in 2009 and Tottenham have indicated a desire to extend it but the player is aware his future may now lie elsewhere.

He is the fourth-choice forward at White Hart Lane behind Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane and Darren Bent.

When questioned after the carling cup game tonght Harry Redknapp was asked about signing Anelka or Defoe he said he didn't think anthing would happen with Anelka and then said nowt about Defoe

Would sell him now and take the cash, he's talented but we don't use him and he doesn't seem to fit our style of play

Also think it would be good for other 3 strikers to have more regular partnerships which will hopefully benefit them and as previosuly mentioned have a bit of faith in the youth players if need be

Defoe to Portsmouth £9 on Friday and we shoulf be happy about it

If this deal goes through, what happens to Routledge? Also if we get Matt Taylor, do we sell Malbranque?

My guess is we'd keep both. Get them all fighting for their places until Jan and then sell the ones you kinda knew you were gonna flog anyway, they would have shown better form when competing for a place and you could raise their value.

You have to feel sorry for Nugent after 4 games in the prem, the manager wants to sell him, he cant be that bad

aren't we leaving it a bit late to start signing a striker?

But if we are why don't we go for Adriano 12m is what the asking price is. A bit more upfront and he might accept lower wages

I would be happy with a Defoe Philips swap, we miss Lennons raiding down the right, and with him blowing so hot and cold through a season and no real competition for him, it would be a good move.
Jol clearly isnt a Defoe fan, so Philips would add to the squad and liven up the right flank when Lennon is injured or off form.

I'd not baulk at a Defoe - SWP swap as long as the wages weren't OTT

Thats an insane swap seeing we have Lennon and now Taarabt.

We should hold on to Defoe Coz i wouldn't be Surprised if Berbatov fucked off.

I said a year ago that Nugents mile over rated (the media again) I couldn't believe England's Steve 'haven't got a clue' McClaran picked Nugent for the full England squad ahead of Leroy Lita...shocking.

It's not insane, we are crying out for more width and penetration. SWP would be a class addition and can play right and left (he was superb on the left against Germany). Sure we have Bale and Taraabt as well as Lennon, but they make a combined age of about 30. Another top class wide option would be far more useful than a 4th striker if you ask me.
