Defoe was on Talksport this morning. Wouldn't commit to Tottenham when asked, said he just wants to play football and he'll wait and see what the summer brings. Inviting transfer offers on live radio to be honest.

I think its best for all parties that he leaves

He's of an age where this season is probably our last chance to recoup any significant money for him

He's at an age where he should be playing first team football every week or he will regret the lack of playing time when his career ends and frankly he's not going to get that for us beyond being and impact sub as I don't think he even suits our style enough to be played regularly on rotation (if Harry were to rotate)

He'd bang them in and be a star at a team who can afford to set themselves up to cater to his strengths in similar fashion to how Darren Bent excels at clubs that can make him the main man big fish in small pond.

I think if he goes for a reasonable fee to a club like QPR or Fulham everyone's a winner, we get a decent return for him and can use the money to reinvest and replace, Defoe gets to play and score week in week out and the team would get a quality striker who would probably get them 15 goals plus if they play to his strengths

The only losers would be the Spurs fans who suddenly forget all his short comings when they see him scoring frequently at a lower level and possibly our new striker who has to listen to those fans signing "Jermain Defoe he's a Yiddo" everytime he gets on the ball

Pretty sure if we can get a replacement he will be off. Could be best for both parties. We cash in while he is still worth a bit, he gets to play regularly and probably score plenty of goals. If so thanks for the memories JD, but i think this solution will please both sides and he can go with no ill feeling and always be welcome back at the lane. He just doesn't seem to fit our style of play, but you can guarantee as soon as he starts scoring for another team their will be a dozen threads as to why we shouldnt have sold him, just like when Bent left.

Beaten by the man above:)

cant wait to get rid...he's always offside, erratic and there are much better strikers out there. I also think he needs a new challenge...he's to settled at WHL. Now that I've said that I bet he's gonna pick up the golden boot in the Euro's and go on to win the Premier League golden boot for someone else...just our luck!

Talking to a West Ham mate yesterday and they wouldn't mind him back apparently, as long as he can play alongside Rossi or Berbatov ( he was being deadly serious )

I agree that it's probably best for all parties if he left this summer. I will always cheer him but I think he is something of a victim of modern football's systems and formations. He excels as part of an old fashioned partnership and his partner needs to be a bit of an unselfish lump. I remember reading an interview with Defoe years ago and he said he would love to play alongside Heskey, which says it all really! Today's game is very much about a single top man or a front trio.

I think we will get good money for him.

We could potentially sell him for the same amount or perhaps more than Ade would cost us (not considering the wages). No brainer imo.

Agree with AM, he doesn't suit our style and is only needed as an impact sub. If he was just a bit more versatile then he'd be able to play as a wide forward possibly on the left similar to how Villa plays at Barca but JD doesn't seem to have the football brain to adapt, probably not his fault, he's been brought up on one way of playing but the game at the top level has evolved slightly and unfortunately he hasn't.

Think he would do great at QPR, Fulham or even Aston Villa.

As I said a few weeks ago in the Defoe thread, it's a shame, but football has moved on from strikers like Defoe. He either is unable to or doesn't want to adapt to the changes, personally I don't think he can adapt.

He has been a great goalscorer fro this club, but I think he needs to move on for himself, we can no longer fit him into how we need to be playing, and he is going to get less and less game time from now on. Lets get some money while we still can.

JD should go back and finish his career at West Ham, has been a very good player for us over the years but it's time to move on for everybody concerned.

I'm sure Stoke would be interested in renewing the Crouch/Defoe partnership.
YEa SToke would be an excellent option for him

He'd do well at clubs like EVerton, Sunderland, Fulham, QPR, West Ham (probably any of the promoted clubs), Swansea could use him I'm sure, I don't think Vila so much as they have Bent already and Gabbi Ab but he'd be a useful option for them if they could work it out,

Pretty much any team who can afford to carry a one dimensional goal scorer who blows hot and cold over the course of a season

We need someone new up front for next season, hopefully a prolific goalscorer. Defoe has been great during his time with us but there comes a point where change is needed, both for the club and for the player.

This is the time and I wish him well.

Lets hope he has a good Euro 2012 and his value will rocket to potential suitors. He's a Mummy's boy and won't want to move out of London so I can see the likes of QPR, Fulham (when we take Dembele off them) and Reading all being very interested.

Cant blame him, if we are just gonna park him on the bench all season he may as well leave.

This has been the one real failing of Harry in his time at Spurs I think, his targeting of strikers

Ok when he came in we had our worst set of strikers since Fenn and Allen but he spent big money on safe options that set us back in Keane and Defoe in my opinion (although at the time it was needs must so not the worst moves he could have made taking that in to account)

Where he let us down was when talking about the likes of Falcao he ended up doing a Gerry Francis and again playing it safe to sign Crouchie and try to replicate success he had had at a lower level club (Sinton and Ferdinand anyone?) This was a major mistake in my opinion and a club that not so long ago had had Berbatov and Keane with Defoe on rotation suddenly was taking on the world with their best squad in forever with a strike force so disproportionation weak it was embarrassing

Several windows passed since then and we failed to upgrade on Crouch until last year which was a season too late (well he never should have been sign but whatever), took far too long to look to replace Pav and Defoe could have been upgraded by Rossi and the chance was never taken (after he buried us preseason)

Failure to sign Canvani or Falcoa at times when it seems we could have, general inability to scout and or sign players like Jalavic (whatever his name is at Everton) and Cisse or even take a chance on BA for free when he had impressed at West Ham.

Its not just Harry, we as a club have fucked up royally since selling berbatov in this department

VDV to replace Keane mark II was good business, but PAv, Bent, Defoe, Crouch have all been bad singnings and Ade was good but only a loan and as such still needs to be done or replaced (saha also wasn't good enough)

This summer I expect both Defoe and Saha to go, Ade to be signed or someone with similar qualities

For the rest of our attacking options I think we need to either sign a top class (Klass) prolific goal scorer like KJH although I suspect he is out of our reach (perhaps VDV could offer him a go on his mrs if he signs) and a less expensive winger cover like Hoilet

Or get a cheaper back up striker and spend the money on some like Remy or Levezzi who can upgrade Lennon and also play as a striker when needed (although our ability to get those types of players probably also depend on our dedicated to the cause and willing to offer goes on his wife VDV is)

It's a shame as I like Defoe.

But it's time for him to leave.

He's looked sharp this season and out of the English strikers in the Prem he has the 2nd best goals per minute ratio.

His level is around a top 8-10 club and he'd excel at a club like Sunderland, Villa, West Ham or QPR.

Defoe didn't quite make the grade in the end but he has scored a lot of goals for us. Not sure why some fans can't show him a little respect.
