I really hope he stays but accept he will leave. He is too good to be on the bench but cannot play in a 1 striker system unless he can adapt to playing on the wings which I don't think so.

Always a Spurs hero in my eyes, hope he stays and accepts a sub role but I'm sure he will go elsewhere and score lots of goals

It's a shame as I like Defoe.

But it's time for him to leave.

He's looked sharp this season and out of the English strikers in the Prem he has the 2nd best goals per minute ratio.

His level is around a top 8-10 club and he'd excel at a club like Sunderland, Villa, West Ham or QPR.

Defoe didn't quite make the grade in the end but he has scored a lot of goals for us. Not sure why some fans can't show him a little respect.

I think the reason he doesn't get the respect he deserves is he raised expectations with his early form in a Spurs shirt and then never really fulfilled his potential or at least expectations

I think he was more a victim of the game changing around him and him being unable to adapt

He's an Ian Wright in a league where you need to be a T Henry

Basically the game evolved and he didn't, still a very good striker but he never really managed to live up to what I and I expect most Spurs fans expected him to become and this probably causes whatever level of backlash and lack of respect he gets from some

The main reason we need to sell him is his age, he's only useful to us as a sub and its kind of now or never if you want to sell him for a decent fee.

Its best he leaves for all involved

I agree. When he signed for us there was speculation we'd bought the next England number 9. Unfortunately, he didn't adapt his game or improve enough on his strengths to become a top player. He has scored a lot of goals for us though and when we were pushing to be a top five team he contributed well.

Personally I don't feel disrespect for players who don't make the grade. It's those who are lazy, unprofessional or don't contribute at all that should be disrespected, not someone like JD.

Laughable how some people talk about JD. He hardly played yet he was still our top scorer and some of you lot are saying he's shit, get rid of him etc etc.

He'll go somewhere else and score bucket loads, then you'll all complain that Harry never used him properly and should never have sold him.

He suits anyone but a top six club and he will score goals. We'll get good money and he'll get first tram football. I got no issue with exercising a win-win situation. Thanks JD but its time

His all round game is so limited, he can only really flourish in a 442 system, which very few teams play any more. Even in a 442, at the level we are at - or aspiring to maintain, his limitations outweigh his benefits.

Defoe's chipped in with some valuable goals but the 30m+ we spent on him and Keane should have been better spent on a player who would have offered valuable goals plus more.

If we need four strikers and he's hapy to sit on the bench from time to time, then I'm more than happy to keep him. But he's not happy doing that.

He's rubbish hope he's sold sooner rather than later
That is an absolute joke of a comment.

A player who has scored over 100 goals for our club is not rubbish.
I believe he got 17 goals this season mainly from coming on as a sub.
Defoe is best as part of a big man/small man partnership and would flourish under these conditions.
Defoe clearly loves the club and the fans appreciate that.
He has just been selected and will play I am sure a part in the euros.

This is such a fucking stupid comment, it just irks me as to how we as fans turn on a player whose goals have been invaluable for us over the seasons.

The club is moving in a new direction, and the formation that we play is not as favourable for Defoe as it once was. For this reason alone and to recognise his contribution to the club, Harry should be honest with him and grant him the opportunity to ply his trade somewhere else. But to call him rubbish is ridiculous - most clubs would be thankful for a player like him.

Thanks for the service JD but best for all parties that you make the move. Just doesn't fit in to our system of play anymore, it's not his fault or something to give him stick for.

I'm fairly certain we'll be able to get one of the mid table prem teams to buy him (Stoke would be a good shout) for well over 10 million.

Everyone's a winner.

It always rankles with me how pundits continually spout how they are amazed Defoe doesn't start more games with us and it's like they are completely oblivious to his failings which are seemingly only apparent to Tottenham fans.

As a shift and shoot striker he is one of the best but you have to have much more in your locker than that in today's footballing climate and he lacks considerable awareness, link up play and tactical nous to ever make it properly at the very highest level.

Yeah, someone who has 100 goals for this club is rubbish... You're foolish.

Ultimately there is no point him being here when when VDV is the main man, the two are incompatible. We need to chose our system, and have players who can slot in, and Defoe only works in a straigtht 442.

The money spent on the second spells of Keane and defoe added to the money laid out for Crough really do seem crazy

Probably best for the guy to move on, get games and score goals.

He's been a good servant and done his bit, but he is fundamentally limited as a player and would be best served and valued at a different club.

I heard the interview on Talkshite and when he was talking about the agony of Satuday it could have been any one of us talking.

So even if he is off he's still a Yiddo, he has never asked for a transfer he just wants to play.

You just know he'll score against us everytime we play if he moves, so it had better not be to the spammers. Think they still hate him there with a passion anyway so can't see that happening.

If he leaves we may have to bring three strikers in, now considering we couldn't even get one before the season started last time, what are the odds of getting three?

I think we'll cash in on Defoe and he'll go where he thinks he's more certain of starting matches.
A typical Harry move would be to bring Michael Owen in as a replacement, he's on a free and could have a couple of good seasons left in him by the amount of football he's missed through injury. I'm probably the only one of here who thinks this might be a gamble well worth taking.
