I just don't understand how we could be a gnats cock away from signing him in the summer and now after we've had half a season and an entire new window to sort things out it still can't happen. If anything the guy has got better according to Porto fans and we're crying out for a creative spark in the middle. He's an AVB favourite. It all just seems like it's meant to be.

Well that would go some way to the reason why. Also, he's their best player and the talisman of their midfield making them tick. He's a fan favourite, obviously loves playing for the club. Porto are always in the CL and pretty much dominate their league. Yes, it's a weak league but it's his home country. He's probably on very good money already.

If I were in his shoes I wouldn't be moving unless given 2 reasons to:
1) The money is way too good to turn down (highly unlikely given our Chairman).
2) The proposed club is a European powerhouse guaranteed of CL football and competing for honours.

And that's just the difficulties with the player let alone the club, agents and everyone else involved....

AVB will be at Levys door tomorrow saying, " look what am doing with what I have, give me what I want(Moutinho)"
And Levys pretty quick reply will be "keep it up".

As much as I would love moutinho, we aren't gonna get him, move on

From what's been said by eyeteekay, Levy fudged the deal.

No thanks to this lad. He's not worth the sort of money that porto want for him. There are better options if we're looking for a similar player to him.

"I have to do things well with Porto in order to go to Spain or England, with a more renowned team. I know many great players have played here, were sold and succeded with big European clubs and I hope to do the same."

That's encouraging for Porto fans.

To be honest with you the mentality is completely different to that of teams in the big leagues or at least the big teams. Porto are a club that prides themselves on making stars and making money out of them so I doubt that he'd be under any illusions of what his role would be with them.

Hazard made similar noises before leaving Lille, it wasn't a question of is he going to leave, it was more of a question of how much are they gonna get for him.

JJ has hinted we were never going to sign him anyway.

@tariqpanja: Porto announce they've spent €3.3m to re-acquire 15 pc of Joao Moutinho from 3rd party investor Soccer Invest Fund

@tariqpanja: Not sure but deal by Porto may mean club has now bought back 100 pc of Moutinho's transfer rights. So club now has total control of sale

@tariqpanja
Won't be surprised if Moutinho finally gets his move from Porto by tomorrow night's deadline. #spurs

For those asking here's Porto's filing to Portugal's stock exchange announcing buyback of 15pc of moutinho's rights

The truth is though, Porto fail to realise one very important thing.........twice a year we enter a strange cosmic alignment in which unearthly powers are disposed onto one, a special one & his time has come.........

Hope we manage to get him or at least a decent defensive midfield option - I fear with Sandro out for the season we may struggle otherwise as if Parker gets injured we're then relying on Huddlestone or Livermore...

We're okay if we go 4-3-3 I think. I think Livermore could hold his own weight in a 3 with Holtby and Dembele. But if Dempsey/Ade or Defoe(2nd striker)/Siggy I'd be pretty reluctant.
