There we go. Look at my tweet above to JJ - he's clearly a target. Although it does look like Juve will get him (which should mean we have a free run at Pereira).

So because JJ hasn't given you a concrete no, that means he is clearly a target?

To provide some context: JJ was answering many questions at the time, and ruling many players out (usually by replying #fn - meaning fake news), but when I mentioned Cancelo, he did not do the same, which leads me to believe we have some sort of interest in him. Maybe he's not a top target, but I think there's something there.

Although you and other ITKs haven't mentioned him, so I could be completely wrong.

We must be getting a right back in surely?

The fact the manager has publically said KWP isn't ready for Newcastle is a signal to levy to get a deal done if you ask me.

lots of outlets running with this now.

Of all the RBs we've been linked with, where does this bloke rank?

especially compared to Pereira?

I would suspect that we shouldn't automatically assume that JJ, informed as he is, knows the actual status of every single player we are linked with. Just because he doesn't outright say "not interested", it can mean that he simply doesn't know. His lack of refusal is not an automatic "Heck yes, we are sooooo interested, we are interest like bees are in honey".

I would assume that there are reasons to be pleased with either. We could even actually fit both in the same starting line-up, which goes to show how versatile both are.

All joking aside, he looks decent. I really wouldn't mind us spending good money on a decent right back. The fullbacks are so important to the way we play - it's our only real width - that we need to quality players per position. Davies isn't as good as Rose but he has proved he won't let us down. Tripper is very good going forward but he needs experienced competition. KWP has talent but he's raw. I wouldn't object to us signing this guy

Exactly. It's worth spending big on a top quality right back because it's so important to the team.

Is he quick, is my question?

I have a strong feeling we will get him.

No idea why. Just a feeling that he seems like a spurs signing.

Add Barkley and that young keeper (Jake Turner), and it won't be a terrible window.

There's an interesting article in The Guardian today where Trips talks about his role this season. He comes across as really grounded and makes an intriguing comment about the need to rotate full backs in Poch's system. We're not buying a development player; I think we're after a quality RB that doesn't diminish our system when we rotate

I agree with you. And also, a player that's motivated by being one out of a team of two RBs. Not somebody who thinks in terms of who is nr. 1, who is nr. 2, but more willing to be in it together with another RB.

Totally agree with this. It feels like Trippier would be the RB in a back 4 but that we need a more "high motor" player to be the RWB in a 3-4-3 formation.

I'm still hopeful of Pereira myself but not discouraged by links with Cancelo, Toljan etc

Pereira is probably the closest thing to a finished product, but he's been in France and he doesn't have the size that Cancelo/Walker/Rose/Davies have. Cancelo is probably the most physically similar to Walker. Pace for days, but can be questionable in defense and he plays the position more like a winger. That is, he'll take his man on rather than put in a Trippier-level cross. Toljen has the most upside, but I'm not convinced he's further along than KWP.

So, Pereira could probably play now, Cancelo would probably need some Poch reworking, and Toljen would be a Trippier understudy.

We knew Walker was leaving, now with Trippier's injury we're looking short in a key area with the start of the season looming yet again.

Frustrating déjà-vu.

It's frustrating from a fan's perspective but 1) you don't expect your starting RB to go down in a friendly and 2) the Walker money is meant to buy 3 players, not just a single replacement. We may have a replacement in mind, but we need other transfers to get cheaper so that we can afford all of our targets.

However, I don't think most supporters are super convinced that Trips should be the defacto starter and that a Walker replacement needed to be here regardless of Trips' fitness.
