The 86-year-old Bahamas-based Lewis surrendered voluntarily after traveling to the United States to answer the charges, his lawyer told AFP in a statement.

Lewis is accused of furnishing employees and lovers with inside information for years in a "brazen" scheme that raked in millions of dollars.

The Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Damian Williams, announced on Tuesday that the Bahamas-based Lewis had been indicted along with two co-conspirators.

"The defendants were arrested this morning and will be presented later today," Williams's office said in a statement.

David Zornow, attorney for Lewis, said the US government had made "an egregious error in judgment" in charging his client.

"Mr Lewis has come to the US voluntarily to answer these ill-conceived charges, and we will defend him vigorously in court," he added.

Have been, and haven't. FDC/IRS/DOJ are not to be fucked with. I value my livelihood far too much to do something that stupid.

The closest I have ever come to sharing something about a place I work was in 1998, when I was one of the first 100 employees at a tiny little internet company that sold books. I, like all full time employees were given a smidge of stocks. I told my dad that he should consider investing in this venture. He responded: "The day I take stock advice from my 23 year old son, is the day I turn myself into the loony-bin". Fast forward 10 years later, and it was the biggest regret of his life. 10k would have made 8M. But then again, I would do exactly the same if my 20 year old son came to me suggesting something similar!!

Fact is, if you work for publicly traded companies that are in the fortune 500, then you'd be biblically dumb to share any insider information. Always be under the assumption that you're being watched like a hawk.

Seen a few people in my time try to bend the rules. They paid a hefty price. One of whom is still in prison.
