Yes, because insider trading is just as bad as having a critical journalist bludgeoned to death and dismembered with fucking bone saws.

Lewis is a greedy old ****, but he’s not a butchering despot.

I didnt say it was, it clearly isnt. But that doesnt make ENIC good people. Because quite clearly they are not. Why are people so obtuse.

So Tottenham is owned by ENIC?
ENIC has two private shareholders, the minority with Daniel Levy and the majority with the Lewis family trust (or whatever it is called) set up last year in October?
Joe Lewis separated himself from the club then and is not really the owner any more?

Please correct if I am wrong.

Mostly because the morons don't seem to realise it'll have no baring on the club what so ever, and they've even said that!!
The main effect it’ll have will sadly be more bad publicity and scrutiny towards the club itself at a time when all the focus should be on the football, because that’s how the media works.

The sooner this chump and his family leave the club, the better.

Um, you did very clearly seem to bundle all morality arguments into one pot. You didn't explicitly say it was just as bad - but you told everyone to stop going on about morals now Joe seems to have done something wrong... Allegedly, and for the (illegal) benefit of the people round him rather than personal gain. I'd take this one on the chin and hide out till people stop commenting.

So how do we rank now compared the oil clubs and other scumb bag owners? Are we still the ethical white knights or in the bin with the rest of them
nowhere near as bad. and this is individual behaviour rather than systemic to the regime. One person has been bad and been caught cheating the financial system for profit. He's not been killing people and eroding human rights.

Don’t think I’ll be listening to Talkshite this morning, Jim White will be unbearable & Simon Jordan is on holiday so all reasonable common sense comment will be non existent.

Well I'll say one thing, we can't get accused of being apart of being used in sport washing the owner's reputation. We're in the bloody clear on that as a club.

I don't think that the solution to this situation is to be used as justifying that oil clubs aren't as bad, rather that we should be consistent and not want our club attached to such behaviour if he's found guilty.

So yeah, still ethical mate, sorry xx

Can anyone explain to me like I'm 5 what he's actually done?
When people buy or sell shares on the stock market they can obviously go up or down. And you can make a profit by predicting either direction.

The market is seen as a 'fair game' and uses financial analysts to look at information, make predictions, follow trends etc. Importantly, because it's a fair game for all, the information people use to make such decisions (buy or sell) is all Public Information. Meaning you or I could find it just the same as anyone else. Information like Public Accounts or trend analysis on a sector (such as tech).

However, Joe, essentially, has been cheating. He's been getting information that 'insider' - which usually means confidential and inside the firm. This term (insider information) also denotes that the info is juicy enough to move the market, or at least move the share price. And Joe's been getting in prior to the public knowing. This is seen as cheating, its seen as abusing power and influence, and crucially its seen as eroding the trust of the system. Crucially, it can be seen as potentially hurting the common person (see next para)

When you get this information you use it for your own financial gain. If you know (before anyone else) that facebook is going to buy company X. you could buy shares in company X and then when the purchase is announced the shares would go up and you'd make loads of money. Also, you could bet against (or short) stocks you think are going down - this has the knock on affect of hammering the stock price down further which sucks because that stock may be held in your pension, and hurt loads of people. Insider trading may amplify movements which isn't fair or true.

So Joe has been alleged to have obtained such info and passed it on to his palls - who may or may not have used it. Breaking the rules around using insider info (including accessing it, and passing it on) is a massive massive no no in the eyes of the law.
