I agree with everything being said but he does seem to be a decent/above average finisher in the box. Yes he doesn't score great goals, but he still gets them (I know about the pens).

Much rather Vlahovic, who's the better player, or Orban, who's got the far higher ceiling. David would be a weird in between where it's a lot of money for a player who's not that young and who doesn't necessarily even walk into our starting XI.
Not that young? He's 23! I'd say that was pretty young!

So the pros & cons are:

Pros - Versatile forward, good in tight spaces, very good goal scoring return, 96 in 220 at club level & 25 in 42 internationally, young.
Cons - lacks pace, French league, lacks real height.

As a player he reminds me of Lacazette. Small in stature but good on the ball & a good finisher when he has the time you get in the French league. Personally think it is quite a risky buy, but I guess what signing doesn't carry an element of risk.

David is certainly more of an established player there is no doubt, but personally I’d rather take a risk on Orban or Marcos Leonardo. David will cost around €70 mil because that is how important he is to Lille but for me I think that outlay for him would be a mistake. I don’t think he is on the same level Osimhen was when Napoli bought him for example. Whilst Orban would certainly be the greater risk I think David will still be risky and that’s not what you want if you are going to spend €70 mil.

Here is Osimhen's season at Lille before moving to Napoli:

If anything David is further advanced than Osimhen was when he left Lille. That being said Osimhen was younger when he left Lille, so it's not exactly comparable.

Similar strikers but Orban I believe has the higher ceiling and perhaps the most important aspect for this club, the cheaper outlay.

he's clearly held in high regard but not sure this represents the best value for money, maybe if we didn't already have richy.

I get the fact we're allegedly working on number 1 striker and number 3 winger but you would have expected vlahovic to be number 1 available striker surely? unless of course if we know flat out he isn't available.
Is he available? Not sure Juve want to sell him.
Does he want to join Spurs? Seems unlikely given our current situation.
Does he have long term injury concerns? Possibly.
Does Ange want him? No idea.

Again if it's me I go big for Vlahovic, but it comes with a lot of risk.

David comes with less risk.

In terms of value for money - there's no such thing. Kane going to Bayern was probably the best value for money signing any team has made in the last 10 years, as despite his contract situation he's bound to bang goals in for them in the Bundesliga. But even then they've paid over £100m for a 30 year old.

I think if we're honest with ourselves, this whole idea that we should go for Orban over David is nothing more than group think as maybe a few people have watched both extensively but I doubt the rest of us have seen more than a couple of games of one of them, letalone either. It's just the current vibe that Orban is the guy.

I say this as I'm desperate for us to go for Orban and I've never seen the guy play and you've all made David sound like he's gonna flop like Lacazette  Must admit, it was the person who linked the stats of strikers from the Belgian league that got me excited, plus the french league has been notoriously hit and miss, mostly miss.

Keep in mind how bloated David’s stats are by pens tho. 11 of his goals were pens last season. Having watched both in France Osimhen looked significantly better in comparison.

Reportedly, David is Napoli's #1 choice to replace Osimhen if he ends up leaving.

Their scouting is not to be scoffed at in recent years with Kvaratskhelia, Kim Min Jae, Anguissa, Lobotka, etc...

Dare I say it, but Orban seems to be the hipsters choice.

How is he 23! Feels like he's been around for years. At that age the stats don't look to bad.
