Dare I say it, but Orban seems to be the hipsters choice.

It does seem that way, we might not be able to even get him judging by some reported quotes. I fear falling for the past trap I did of; whatever the manager wants is fine by me, but I equally want to put faith into the club that they know what they're doing with the new structure (including the ghost of Paratici); VDV, Vicario, Odogie and Sarr are good votes of confidence.

Reportedly, David is Napoli's #1 choice to replace Osimhen if he ends up leaving.

Their scouting is not to be scoffed at in recent years with Kvaratskhelia, Kim Min Jae, Anguissa, Lobotka, etc...
tbf 3 of them were linked to us, we just didn't pull the trigger...

Keep in mind how bloated David’s stats are by pens tho. 11 of his goals were pens last season. Having watch both in France Osimhen looked significantly better in comparison.
Fair point, although that puts David's outfield goals at 1 every 227 mins versus Osimhen's at 1 every 208 mins so there's not all that much in it.

It's also worth noting that penalties account for 22% of Kane's goals.

I keep seeing this. But what is it that makes you think he has the higher ceiling? Stats are broadly comparable, and David plays at a higher standard of football.
Just gauging what I see which of course is subjective as opposed to merely stats.

There's a premium attached to David playing in a better league and more top level European experience granted but I think on balance Orban represents a better prospect with price factored in and age on his side for Ange to mold him who can also be fairly appeased initially being understudy to Richarlison whereas David will be looking to command a starting berth from the get-go.

The level of quality we want is out of our price range or not available I'd rather we didn't spend the Kane money than waste it.

Of course one shouldn’t wholly dismiss pens and Kane scored a lot of them but if you actually watch both Osimhen and David they just excel in very different areas. As a striker Osimhen is just on a completely different level, even back then you could see how good he was going to be. Personally I don’t find David that technically gifted a finisher and in general inside the box i don’t find him particularly lethal. I think you can tell that he’s played a large portion of his career as a SS and AM rather than just being a pure CF.

I am not expert on him at all, but I’ve watched him a decent number of times over the last two seasons and I’m just not entirely convinced he excels in the areas we’d actually need him to excel and I also think he might really struggle to adapt to the pl. But I’ll fully accept my take on him is wrong if there’s someone else who’s watched a lot of him thinks he’d be perfect for the system and league.

He’s only 23 and one would hope he will go up another level but purely as a striker i have questions.

Agreed. If David and Brennan Johnson are the best we can do this window, we'd be better off waiting until January to see what opportunities arise IMO. Of course I'd like signings to improve us in the areas that need to be strengthened, but if we can't manage it then let's see what we have with the likes of Richarlison and Solomon rather than spending the money on mediocre players.

But we do have to sign someone, Richi gets injured and we have no recognised ST in our team :nailbiting:

On the basis we do have to sign someone then it's a case of risk versus cost.

Orban is lower cost but slightly higher risk than David. David is medium cost and medium risk. And so on... the less risk you want the more you pay and even then there is always a risk.

Crazy idea but maybe we could promote one of our under 21's to the back up striker sub position. We seem to have signed a few recently and there's always Scarlett

If we thought they were ready this would have already happened. Fact is I'm not sure it's a back up we are after.

A lot of conflicting reports.
Lots of people saying we’re not going for him and a few saying we are.

And then also conflicting opinions on if he’s good or not.

don’t know what to think with this one.
