I put this in the Spurs Chat area...because I thought maybe, just maybe there was a chance of him coming to us. I know this has been discussed before, but if the Man U position doesn't open up, what are the chances of him coming to us, knowing there will be a new stadium being built, along with the financial fair play rules coming up?

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has said his next step in management will be a return to the Premier League.

The Portuguese is currently coach of Spanish side Real Madrid but admitted that, while he is happy there, his "passion is in England".
Speaking to Lord Coe, who was guest editing BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Boxing Day, Mourinho added: "My next step will be to go back [to England]."
He then joked with Coe: "Get me a club in a couple of years."
Mourinho, who left Chelsea in 2007 after winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and League Cup, went on to win the treble of Champions League, Italian league and cup with Inter Milan before moving to Madrid in 2010.
He has guided the club to the top of the Primera Division, three points clear of Barcelona going into the winter break.
"I believe it is probably the biggest club in the history of football, I didn't want to miss the chance to work here," said Mourinho of Real Madrid.
"But my next step will be to go back [to England] if possible and stay for a long time."

Mourinho has long been linked with a move to Manchester United when Sir Alex Ferguson retires.

In July 2009, while manager of Inter, Mourinho said: "I would consider going to Manchester United but United have to consider if they want me to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson. If they do, then of course."
However, earlier this year, Ferguson said: "It's difficult for me to say when my position will be available. It will be my health that decides. I will continue until I no longer feel the energy that has always accompanied me."

Can only see him going to Man Utd tbh. The job will come up in a few years and he ll just wait until then. Perfect match imo

Would love it to be us, maybe if we won the league he'd come. To be honest though can only really see him going to United.

As previous posters have alluded to. Only Man Utd or City can afford him and his transfer targets.

We might get AVB!!!

Not sure he'd be motivated entirely by money

The thought of returning to the passion of the English league and turning a very good club into a truly great club may well appeal to him especially after the way he was treated at chelski

I've absolutely no doubt that if roman hadn't fallen out of love with him Chelsea would have completely dominated english football and have a couple at least 1 CL trophy by now

Love him or hate him the bloke is clearly a genius when it comes to management

I think you have to look at the playing field at the time of his availability. Should that time coincide with SAF still holding the reigns tight, and Mancini doing well in both PL and CL I'd bet against him going there.

Next teams to consider are Spurs, Liverpool, & Arsenal. Spurs could get him if Arry leaves at the right time, Liverpool could get him if the owners decide they're not going to flog a dead horse anymore, and Arsenal could get him if Wengers hangs his coat up too.

The point is it's way too early to say he's bang on for any of the teams. Even Chelsea could go back in for him if the timing is right.

Would love to see him take over from Arry when he leaves us. Although since his days at Porto Spurs would be his biggest test as a manager as we don't throw silly money around.

we can't pay the wages he demands of his clubs. his success is built on massive investment on the playing squad, (wages), and we can't, currently, operate at that level. his sides play fairly moribund football and his antagonistic management style grates enormously. i wouldn't want him at the club personally.

Geographical location will play a part in Mourinho's thinking, and that of his family. It is well documented that he loved life in London when boss at Stamford Bridge, and to be quite honest Manchester just does not have the pull, excitement or glamour of one of the World's major Capital Cities, as does London. I fully expect Spurs and possibly even Arsenal, depending on Wenger's state of mind in two years time to be clubs high on his shortlist when he eventually leaves Real Madrid.

He does not say when he wants to return, and he seem happy at Real M. But we also now that their president is obsessed with winning the CL so if Jose can't bring home that trophy within the next 2 seasons he may be shipped out.
If Villas-Boas doesn't improve Chelski by the end of the season then Roman may call Jose to bring him back.
ManU are looking for a "worthy" replacement for Fergie. Jose seem like their first choice.
Citeh, with all their money for players, and ready to offer a salary now clubs can match, would be favourites to land him.
Remember, Jose loves big clubs with big money to spend. Remember how he complained over the lack of money for players when he managed Chelski....so imagine him at Spurs.
Sorry, but no way Jose.

Another team to consider if their very wealthy owners ever get their money out is QPR. London based, and if they're still in the PL and opportunity knocks they might actually go for the next level...

mourinho would not got to qpr. qpr do not have the cachet or the money to attract the types of players mourinho would want to sign. i could see him going to psg if they continue to chuck the money around. the chance to win titles in portugal, england, france, spain and france might motivate him.

ps - i know paris is not in england.

QPR owners are amongst the wealthiest. I'm not saying he'd go there as things stand but if the right manager came along looking for a job that could pretty much guarantee them moving up a level they might decide to get their money out. That the club is in London, does have money (if they choose to spend it), and was the best offer/challange on the table for him at the time it would be something for him to consider.

Comparing an offer like say a big spending QPR with an established financially well run team Tottenham, the QPR offer might just suit him better.

well, i suppose theoretically it is possible, but really, it isn't. his ego would not allow him to move from real madrid, probably the most prestigious football club in the world, playing in front of 85,000 impassioned, expectant madridistas to qpr, the loft and the denizens of shepherd's bush.
