He'll be 22 by the end of his loan, I fear that his career may lie elsewhere. He's clearly a talented guy and has shown as much in the past so I guess the question lies in why he hasn't been given more of a chance in and around our first team? Winks and as of late Skipp have been used but other than the occasional cameo Josh hasn't really had the opportunity. Is he a poor trainer? Does he have awkward representation? Was he impatient? Something seems odd, because despite people digging at Poch for not giving younger players a chance, he seems more than happy to chuck some of our younger guys in if they have ability and the required attitude.

I wonder if Poch realised that he would only realistically get minutes for a limited number of youth players (and particularly in midfield) and prefers Winks/Skipp to Onomah - it doesn't mean he doesn't rate Josh, just perhaps either rates the others higher or they are a better fit for what he thinks he will need?

It's not fair to have youth players hanging around forever hoping for a chance so I'm glad to see loans are back in - just a shame that it isn't going as well as he would have hoped.

Josh’s problem remains the same. For all his talent he doesn’t put in the outstanding performances that he did at youth level. KWP does the things he has always done well when he plays, as does Winks and now Skipp. Josh rarely shows any of the brilliance from his youth football career. He would be better off on loan in league 1 dominating from the centre of the pitch than playing rarely as a 10 in the Championship.

The real shame of it is that if a club like Brighton took him and persevered for a few months with him at CM in sure he would start putting in the type of performances our coaches clearly expect.

Maybe with our midfield being so low in numbers there a chance of a recall. Josh must find it frustrating knowing that he left to get football but would of probably got his opportunity if he stayed. Needs to show up if he does though.

Harry Kane would have played CM for us before Onomah.

Talking about Josh not being able to catch a break: rumors are Wednesdays new manager will be.....Steve Bruce. Ffs

If that’s true, they deserve all the future years if failure and heartache that isn’t coming their way and all for a considerable amount of money. When will these clubs learn?

Loans don't seem to be working out for him at all. Mind you, they didn't do much for Harry Kane so there's a bit of hope to hang onto.

Only Kanes prem loans didn't work, he never got regular minutes. At Millwall kane won there player of the year playing mainly in centre midfield and occasionally striker.

Ah yes Leicester were in championship then I forgot that.. Cheers. Yes I know he had a tough time getting minutes there as he did at Norwich also.

Surely they did a lot for Harry Kane? Made him the player he is today? Paradoxically, I don't think going on loan is necessarily about goals, or assists - but about maturing, understanding the game better and igniting a passion beyond what you get at Spurs. Out of a player's comfort zone and learning to fight, battle and adapt.

I actually think the loans have been vital education to help develop Onomah other parts of his game. Neither Villa or Wednesday play similar football to us, so it was always going to be a struggle at times for Josh to find his way. Which I believe was the point of the loans. Couple weeks back, we saw the ex Sheff Wed coach put out some unfair comments to the media about Onomah's 1st game back from injury. How does Onomah react to that? He puts on an even better display in the next game and I believe would have even received the MOTM award (according to Sheff Wed fans) in Sheff Wed last game if hadn't got injured. There are tangible bits that we reference to define how well a player is doing such as goals, assists, tackles etc but the other the intangible parts that we can't fully measure but need to be challenged and developed such as reaction adversity/criticism, mentality etc should also be considered when trying to determine if a player has shown growth. With that in mind, I fully believe Josh is ready to come back to Spurs and thrive.

 Not laughing at your post (which I fully agree with btw) but the timing as I literally just posted something similar right after you.

Great minds....!

(y) Hope that we recall Josh in January. Poch and the team have done well creating this positive bubble within the team that seems to push players past any self imposed barriers or challenges thrown our way. Onomah could do with some of that positive energy and the immediate feeling of working towards something that hasn't been achieved in many of our lifetimes.

If Dembele is going I wish we would just bring him back and put him around the first team squad.

Couple of good performances and his career at Spurs could be revitalised.
