Kuyt, hard working but not very skilful and not that good a striker IMO. Kalou not good enough to break in to the Chelsea's bench and not good enough to break into our team. I am not sure why he swap Chelsea's team for ours. Hoillet haven't seen him play much but I have heard a lot of good things about him.

Good post.

I'm guessing the 'home grown player quota' will be an issue as well.

After the last few seasons I've given up any hope of us signing a 'marquee' player anyway. I can't even see us signing Adebayor permanently unless we significantly raise the average salary, which would obviously mean our existing first-team players expecting a pay rise as well.

All I know for sure is that it's going to be a long, drawn out window with plenty of highs and lows.

Here's what I don't get with the Kuyt. We expect him to be a backup, but he was frustrated with Daglish for cutting his playing time. Why do we assume that he would be happy to be a bench player for us?

I wouldnt mind any of them to be honest, Hoilett could reallt progress into a qaulity player, I like Kuyt as well. The thing is all would want first team football IMO.

That's a very fair point. But the answer is probably that he'll get more game time here, as just cover for Adebayor if say Defoe wasn't here. At Liverpool he was essentially being used out wide from time to time, and even up front it was Suarez or Carroll, or both - ahead of him in that position.

I guess the sell from Harry would be looking at how many minutes he got last season and explaining that he can envisage considerably more with Tottenham despite not being first choice.

i want a back up and/or competition for Lennon who have a similar style so that rules out Dirk Kuyt

I reckon we could accomodate both Hoilett and Kuyt. We've effectively been playing with only two wide players all season so a third to take the pressure off Bale and Lennon would be good and Hoilett fits that bill. Kuyt meanwhile offers a different type of wide option and can also cover upfront or even off another target man.

I'm not sure however if we can accomodate Remy, Hoilett and Kuyt, unless Remy is being targeted as an out and out striker.

I think we need to remember that we are desperately light in the attacking areas at the moment. Our attacking players are effectively:

VdV, Bale, Lennon, Saha and Defoe, and both of those last two could well leave. Yes we have Pienaar and Kranjcar (and I suppose technically Dos Santos and Bentley) but I don't expect any of them to be at the club next season. If we want two good options for each position then there could be scope for bringing in quite a few attacking options if the appetite and money is there.

I think I would refine your argument still further and say we first of all need a new strike force (one top class striker and a back up). Then if the money is there, look at the wing positions where, although we might be light, we do have Bale, Lennon with Pienaar, Krancjar and Townsend if we need back ups - not necessarily ideal but we could survive on that. We cannot with the current forward line of Defoe, Saha and Gio !

A change of manage at Liverpool might mean he waits to see how he fits in to their plans

Surely we should be looking at players better than what we have, especially when Malaga will likely make a bid for lennon this summer

Are they? News to me

All the spanish Journalists have said this season Malaga are going to spend alot if they reach champions League, and that will try to sign a english player to tap in to the ex pat market and the english market

The two players that have been linked are Green and previously Lennon, who i think some ITK said last year they made a £20million bid

Remember a Downing also costs £20mill

Yep, but they also signed a greasy-haired pikie with the technique and grace of a blind 3-legged Donkey for £35million, so I wouldn't use them as a yard stick

£20m for Lennon is more than fair

I would be interested to know if any team has actually ever bid for Lennon. He has been linked with most teams over the years.

You can't do football transfer maths anyway, one man's value is not judged by the value of another transfer there are a lot of variables involved and its supply and demand at the end of the day

Just because DC and Liverpool were stupid enough to pay through the nose for Downing does not mean Lennon's value should shoot through the roof, Downing's transfer fee was not actually a reflection of his value

it simply comes down to how badly we want to keep him and how badly someone else wants to sign him.
