Yeah, I mean I don't expect this transfer to happen at all, I'm just interested in how people think this would be a smart allocation of our resources.
That's A), and B) is that at some point we need to develop a core group of players that's good enough that we can risk tossing in a few rookies from our own academy. Pochettino has so far only officially promoted and fully integrated one academy player into the senior squad. When we keep buying N'Twats and Sissokos, those transfers only stand in the way of taking the risk with an academy kid.

Talented as he is he isn’t what we need right now. We need game changers to take us to the next level.
I don't disagree. Per Herc, you'll likely see 2 expensive players as well as a couple of fliers like this.

If it turns out that all we sign are 5 guys in this 20-30M range then I'll be with you fully, but as it stands I expect Kluivert/Grealish types to be the fliers just to see what we can develop.

If you think of it as €22m for this lad - we're apparently after that or more for Janssen. A swap (indirectly or not) wouldn't be too bad at all!

However, I do think Sterling and Griffiths would look just as good in the Eredivisie, so that makes you wonder. I even think Shaq would have scored more than Janssen ended up doing.

I agree in that there’s holes that need filling with talented prospects but a wide forward isn’t one of them. A youngster can cover Eriksen, Kane and potentially central midfield. With us after a ‘quality’ wide forward we’ll struggle to cater our existing players never mind a primary signing and circa £20m youngster.

That's it. You've got Eriksen and Dele, neither of which are wingers, and that leaves on singular spot for Luca, Lamela and Son. That really is an admirable collection already.
Agree. He's a quick little kid...easy to see the potential. But for a fast and creative wide player with a great long distance strike, Lucas offers so much more and can also play in both wide and central areas, better justifying a bench slot. I really think if he gets more consistent playing time and some confidence from Poch, Lucas could become one of the first names on the team sheet after Kane and Eriksen for us...and we've already got him under contract for the next four years (the physical prime of his career).

I understand the desire to bring in another forward in the Martial mold who can cover for Kane. But it's a hard pass for me on the Kluivert kid who doesn't fit that bill. Honestly if we're dealing with Ajax and its not De Ligt, I'd actually have a preference for David Neres because I think he has the physicality to be a more versatile forward or false nine and not just a creative wide player. Or better yet, if we're going to dump 25-30+ million on another forward, just fork over another ten million and buy Richarlison who already has the premier league experience in a versatile forward role.

I prefer Neres as well...I believe Herc intimated we were on him back in January.

I like the look of him, seems quick, technical and from the limited time I've seen him, he plays with his head up.

If we are planning on dropping one of Eriksen or Dele deeper against teams that park the bus, would make sense to have another quick player who can take a player on.

At the price being quoted, I would take him in a heartbeat!

Good point about Lucas. We are not even close to understanding what he is capable of. The one to watch next season.

Agreed. We brought Lucas in for a reason. It was either him, Malcom, or Kluivert and I think we chose the best option in terms of fit in the premier Leauge.

Yep excited to see what Lucas will bring Tbh.

Martial is the new forward I want then I think we’d be complete.

22M nowadays is akin to a 10M flyer 4-5 yrs ago. Take the flyer on the 19 yr old and see what you get.
Pointless to me to spend 22m on our 6th attacking midfield player when we could add that into the CM budget and get a truly special player.

I don’t know that there’s anyone in that range, though. I think you will see a lot of 50-60M mids (which is in our range) and then 95M+. Not much in between.

That's his point, though, @robertgoulet . Why spend the £20mil of a player that is not exactly needed when that money could be best spent going towards the CM weaknesses that are screaming out to be sorted?

Spend £20mil on Kluivert & £30mil on a decent CM, or spend nothing on Kluivert & £50mil on a quality CM and actually sort our biggest weakness?

Yeah, I'm saying we got it right with Lucas cause we finally went out and bought a player with a much higher calibre than the other two.

how do you know that? Kluivert just turned 19 and Moura is 25. I live 30 miles west of you in Fort Worth and cant get Eredivisie games on the TV.
