You can all wish for a striker but, as far as I can tell, Poch has said something along the lines of "We need to find players that will suit our philosophy and way of playing"
So if he can't find who he wants, who wants to come to us, with a price we're willing to pay and whose club is willing to deal then we won't be signing one. Sorry

That's the long and the short of it but I think we will bring someone in though.

Based on what out of interest? Just hope? We desperately needed striker in summer, no striker. We've need reinforcements most January's, and never get them, apart from when we were relegation threatened. There's just no history of it with levy

There's also no history of DL selling players at a loss like he did last summer.
Poch must be doing something to alter his mindset to that extent.

Well he had no choice, sell now or lose even more of there value, and even more levy wanted rid of there sky high wages

Exactly Poch not playing them forced his hand so who knows if Poch has influenced him again into buying who he wants as striker. Only time will tell.

Apologies if already linked in the thread but I found this article interesting - http://www.skysports.com/football/n...d-of-a-rest-at-tottenham-we-look-at-the-stats

Points out that when Harry has had more high intensity sprints and covered more grounds in terms of km run during the match, he's scored more goals. Really highlights the need for a backup striker that could actually allow Harry to be kept absolutely fresh for the big games.

I can't remember exactly how many games Kane started on the bench in the EL, but those saying Son can't stand in need to remember his debut 2 goals, plus Kane sat on the bench v Monaco. Both games Kane never played in and both times we got 3 goals.

I agree we need to get a striker in, but if we were to spend big it needs to be someone that can play in our system, and play anywhere across the front 3 + not upset Son, as he would most probably like to be playing more time by now, and not limit N'jie once he returns. At the moment we have a happy team, we don't want that changing

I don`t agree with buying a Striker as backup to Kane... We should always e looking to improve and everyone should be treated on Merit. We should be looking to get to a stage where the players sitting on the bench should be pushing the first eleven for their place. This means everyone in the squad is motivated to improve and if you get injured or lose form you have to fight to get back in, Trippier and Davies have pushed Rose and Walker to step up their game and we need the same level of competition in other positions. To be fair most of the Strikers we have been linked with are of a quality that they could replace or play with Kane without lowering the quality of the match day team.

We need cover and someone to share the burden with Kane, simple as that.

Given our position and the nature of the League this season it would be hugely remiss not to address this glaring need. I understand and accept that Poch and his team will only want players in they deem suitable on all counts, but surely to God we've identified a healthy list of alternatives even if January isn't ideal - we've know about this problem all season long.

I fully expect us to be doing everything in our power to sign another forward this January.

Which is why I find it utterly bizarre that some footballing 'experts' have come out to say that we don't need another striker. (HR and Wilkins to name a couple)

All the successful PL teams have strived to increase the quality and competition, even in the January window.

I look at Embolo as the perfect signing for Spurs. Would it be easy to sign him? No of course not. But to say "but would he come here to be back up" is nonsense.

Embolo could play alongside Kane, Kane could play behind him. Embolo could take his place in the team and it would be up to Kane to keep his performance up in order for that not to happen. That's what happens at successful clubs.

D'zeko signed for Citeh in January when they had Aguero up top. His goals helped them finish 3rd and win the PL the following season.

Agree, but I'd also argue that we don't have anyone on the bench who can turn a game. I know Son won us the game at Watford, but his match winning contributions have been minimal so far. I think he's a good player, but there's no point sugar coating it. He's not a CF and nor are Chadli and Lamela, despite some desperately clinging on to the notion that they might be to make it seem more palatable when we don't get one.

Of course Kane will still start the majority of games, but the situation at present is that Kane has to stay on for 90 mins every game, even if he's out on his feet or having a stinker. It's ridiculous and belies our position in the league and our ambitions of where we say we want to be.

WINNER!

I keep coming back to one guy I think would check all our boxes, including fitting into Poch's hellish pressing system: Shane Long. He, to me, is tailor-made for Spurs- and he's someone we could actually get. I feel like- particularly at Striker- we need someone who's actually shown he can do it in the Prem. And Long has such an engine!

I know he's not the sexy choice, but to my mind this guy would provide the perfect spark that we need, and would fit right in a la Davies/Trippier/etc.
