I keep coming back to one guy I think would check all our boxes, including fitting into Poch's hellish pressing system: Shane Long. He, to me, is tailor-made for Spurs- and he's someone we could actually get. I feel like- particularly at Striker- we need someone who's actually shown he can do it in the Prem. And Long has such an engine!

I know he's not the sexy choice, but to my mind this guy would provide the perfect spark that we need, and would fit right in a la Davies/Trippier/etc.
Agree with your choice. Saints won't sell though. At least not this window.

How about Lucas Perez at Deportivo La Coruna? 27, winger converted into a striker, strong, composed on the ball, hard working, netted 12 league goals this season and he cost Depor peanuts (£1m). He's an ideal back up who won't be expensive.

The chances of us buying a striker in their late 20s who's only really done well in La Liga are not great after Soldado, are they?

If you apply that approach we'll never sign a striker again. Perez is nothing like Soldado.

Second striker probably more of a pressing need based on the inability of either Son or Chadli to convince me and many others that they can play this role with any conviction or success.

His record prior to that is crap, yet you want him to move league and back up? I'd take Defoe over this guy, probably even Rick Lambert!

I think today's showing, although not completely dismal, once again highlights our desperate need for Kane competition - son, though i believe he is very talented and will be an important player for us, is not cut out to play as a striker against premier league competition.

This issue must be addressed if we are to achieve our goals this season. I do not believe it is too much to ask the club to bring someone in - they have had the time to scout players and possess the budget to pay for the right player. In my mind, no excuse is good enough if we don't sort it this month.

It is very simple for me, this month cannot close out without a striker coming in. Today highlighted it so clear for most watching. I cannot go along with anyone saying Poch will only bring in someone who will fit in etc. This is also where he has to prove himself, and I do not believe for one minute what Poch says to the media. To clarify you have to like the player coming in and see the value he plays, that is agreed. We have had many months now to iron out our alternative targets with all this in mind.

It is very hard for me to believe that whoever we are after is that difficult to get on loan or permanent. This where the board has to be very swift. Martin O'Neil nailed it (believe it was him). He said there is no risk in us bringing in a striker (meaning if he fails) against top 4 money, as well as TV money it is a gamble worth taking.

This is where everyone proves their worth now, moreso the board.

One name no one has mentioned that makes perfect sense is Seydou Doumbia. His loan period at CSKA from Roma has ended, and there are numerous media reports linking Premier League clubs with a move for him. Roma paid about 10 million pounds for him, so a loan with an option to buy deal seems like the ideal move for us.

His pluses are that he has dynamic pace and physicality, is a very good finisher in all aspects, including on set pieces, works hard off the ball, can hold the ball up well, and has shown with 6 goals in Champions League matches against City and United that he can cope with Premier League defenses. He's a fairly experienced and well traveled player, too, having played professionally in Japan, Switzerland, and Russia, so I don't think he'd be overwhelmed with the move to England. As a back-up option to Kane, who can come off the bench and nab a goal late in matches, or who can come in for Kane if an injury occurs, you're not going to find much better on the January market.

The other thing a loan for someone like him would do is preserve our capital for a major striker purchase of someone like Lacazette or Batshuayi in the summer, with the potential allure of CL football to widen the pool of strikers willing to come to us. I'd much rather go down this route (a temporary solution now with a top player in the summer) than gamble on Berahino and potentially not be able to bring in anyone else in the summer.

Of course, I don't expect Levy to actually sign Doumbia or anyone else for that matter. But it'd be a very logical move in the short term for us.

I mentioned him last week, I think in the Berahino thread, when someone said "So, £20mil+ for Berahino? Or £3mil for Dembele from Fulham".. I said Doumbia for around £12mil. Wanted us to take a pop at him for ages now

If we don't sign a proper striker this window we are in big trouble. It's no good dominating matches if we are not going to put chances away. And Kane needs help. All this talk of how Chadli and Son could "do a job" isn't good enough.

I said it from the start and I maintain, we will not be signing a striker this January.

Happily eat humble pie but yeah, don't see it... Despite the glaring need for one.

I got a disagree from an ITK when I posted this a few weeks ago, but despite any murmurings in the background I still maintain the same position and agree with you.

It is not going to happen, though I dearly hope to be proven wrong.

Rather than constantly flirting with Berahino, I'd go and slap an offer in for Wijnaldum.

Been superb for Newcastle tonight. Quick, strong and got a goal or 2 in him.

Ashley would sell also without thinking twice.

There is nobody coming in, I don't want anybody coming in, and the time to do it was last summer.
Now we might as well ride it out, and give Son some more matches.

Ok... the problem is that Berahino is a striker, Wijnaldum is a midfielder- a bit of a strange comparison
