Now, this is a player I'd really like to have at Spurs. But not very realistic at all. I won't lose any sleep over this story.

Hugo Lloris could be key in drawing Karim Benzema to Spurs

Hugo Lloris’ friendship with France striker Karim Benzema could be key in any potential deal Tottenham Hotspur try to organise with Real Madrid.
Spurs need an additional front man ahead of next season and Benzema could be open to a move after an inconsistent season with the current Spanish champions.

He could be more than willing to listen to Lloris as the goalkeeper seems to be one of the only French players willing to offer the striker his support at the moment, as he continues a run of 11 games for France without a goal.
Benzema’s calibre and profile in the global game is very high so Tottenham have to try and look for an advantage wherever they can because if he becomes available, there are going to be some top European teams in for him.
Support and friendship during a tough spell can often go a long way and Spurs will be hoping that means they have an obvious way in, if they want to try and talk to Benzema directly.
His current contract at Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2015 so it all comes down to how much he wants to move and how much the club want to sell, which at the moment looks debatable despite his ratio of eight goals in 22 league games.
Benzema is undoubtedly a player that would transform the Spurs attack and make them a much more dangerous unit than they already are.
At 25-years-old he will also be very appealing to Andre Villas-Boas who will not want to bring in a forward that only has a couple of years left in the tank. It’s an investment he’ll want to prosper as the side develops.
Spurs’ chances of getting Benzema will be further enhanced if they manage to secure Champions League football for next season.
The Frenchman is unlikely to leave Real Madrid at any point for a side that is not playing in Europe’s top club competition, which would rule Spurs out if they don’t finish inside the top four.
Spurs struck a 'working relationship' with Madrid after selling Modric last summer which they are yet to benefit from. Benzema would be a perfect way to move forward with that.
If Spurs have serious aspirations to try and push for the Premier League title within the next few years then this is the sort of transfer they need to try and pull off. Lloris’ friendship and support for Benzema is something which will definitely give them a better chance of getting him than they would otherwise have.
Spurs fans, would you be happy with Benzema signing?

I'd be delighted, but I cant see it happening. I think our best policy is to try and sign young hungry players with bags of potential, not waste time trying to sign global superstars only to be trumped by a mega rich club at the last minute.

Bit of a weak basis to make a thread on, no? We're NEVER going to sign a player of Benzema's profile/financial status, and the source looks like a blogger with 100% wishful thinking and 0% facts making up an article. Don't get me wrong, I'd love Benzema playing for Spurs, but until we have something more than the fevered rantings of a totally not-connected blogger then surely there's no need for a thread?

I cant see this happening as Higauin will be the first out of the door but Madrid are very angry at Benzema at the moment as he has been very unfit this season hence being dropped lately

What is weak and not weak? Most rumours are weak anyway, be it Daily Mail, The Sun, The Mirror etc. I don't know the exact criteria on here for what is considered a "weak basis". This was published on new work with a link to newsnow.

other than suarez, this guy would be absolutely perfect. big, strong, fast, able to finish with both feet, decent header, smart. can pass. we would be mental not to pay if he is willing to come

Ah so we can sign players because of their friendship with people already representing our club. Well summer should be pretty good for us then really..

Vertonghen will see us sign Eriksen
Dembele will see us sign Lukaku & Benteke
Lloris will see us sign Benzema
AVB will see us sign Moutinho
Huddlestone will see us sign Ronald McDonald

Even if we got CL Darth Levy would not stump up the £25-£30m Madrid would want. I think we all know that, even the deluded guy who wrote the original article

I thought McDonald was signed already through Andy Reid...

Round and round and round it goes. No CL and we won't be signing anyone of note. these stories resurrect themselves yearly and have done so for quite a few already.

On the subject of CL I heard a story the other day that UEFA are thinking about letting the winners of the Europa in to the CL next season. Great news? No, it's likely to be at the expense of the lowest place team in the qualifying from the country. So if Newcastle won it for example then it would mean no 4th place qualifier....

The Uefa president, Michel Platini, has stated that all proposals will be considered, with any changes starting in 2015.

Imagine if we finish 4th, Chelsea finish 5th, Chelsea win the Europa and we miss out again! To Chelsea again! And not even for them winning the CL this time?!?

I'd kill myself. I'd actually kill myself. I'd castrate myself first, then asphyxiate myself to death with my severed testicles!

Got be honest, the only way something like this would ever happen would be if Bale was going the other way.. o_O

Spurs fans, would you like a £20+m world class striker?

Sure!

Will it happen?

Nope.

Unless it was part of a plan for Madrid to obtain Bale I couldn't see them selling (and helping out with his wage excess as we'd probably need)

I also doubt he would sign for us as he'd probably have bigger clubs willing to take him should he leave
