Sky Sports News understands Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has left his position at St James' Park.

Keegan returned for his second stint as Magpies boss in January, but rumours suggest he could be leaving his role.

Sky Sports News understands Keegan did not take training on Tuesday and met with board members on Monday.

Speculation is claiming that Keegan has been unhappy with the club's transfer dealings during the summer and is ready to leave St James' Park.
The Magpies have made several signings in recent weeks, but doubts have persisted over Keegan's future at the helm.

Since replacing Sam Allardyce at the start of this year, Keegan has won six of his 21 games in charge.

Despite Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Arsenal, Newcastle had made a bright start to the new campaign, following up a draw at champions Manchester United by beating Bolton Wanderers at home.

Newcastle also set up a Carling Cup third round meeting with holders Tottenham following last week's 3-2 extra-time win at Coventry City.

It makes our carling cup tie seem a little easier.

Shame because Keegan is a top man (and an average manager - so it was nice having him as another manager).

This is what some Geordie has posted on the 606 website. Thought I'd post the whole thing here, because it'll probably get taken down soon:

By riot do you mean harm innocent members of the public who have gone to watch a leisurely activity in peace? Or destroy our clubs stadium which will cost a good few hundred million to repair thus meaning we'll have even less money?

This is showing the true colours of your fanbase.

1) fans on here and forums threatening to boycott games.
2) fans threatening violence and riots.

Baggie in peace-

Why dont you get him banned from all football grounds??

I'm sure if i downed a lager in my seat at arsenal i'd be banned- I nearly got banned there on the opening day for breaking wind !!

Feel for you lot- from an outside view it looked like Keegan was getting an exciting team toghter, its a shame.

Good luck

On the news now, they are saying he was actually sacked because he fell out with the club over the lack of new signings.

Was dreading playing them in the Carling Cup. Actually looking forward to it now.

Even more so if they stick Dennis Wise in charge.

Lack of signings, what a tool that bloke is, they just bought Gutirrez and Coloccini, I think he just realised he was a dick when it came to managing a real club as apposed to Footie Manager, the pressure was making his hair fall out.

Again this total wanker walks out on another job, it's as if he's alergic to problems, however small or big they may be. Anyone else who employs this tosser again to be their manager needs shooting.

SSN report that Keegan has not been sacked & is still employed as manager. Obviously just got lost in translation earlier due to the language barrier!

NEWCASTLE United can confirm that meetings between members of the Board and manager Kevin Keegan were held both yesterday and today.
Kevin has raised a number of issues and those have been discussed with him.
The Club wants to keep progressing with its long-term strategy and would like to stress that Kevin is extremely important, both now and in the future.
Newcastle United values the effort and commitment shown by Kevin since his return to St. James' Park and wants him to continue to play an instrumental role as manager of the Club.
For the avoidance of doubt the Club has not sacked Kevin Keegan as manager.
