We seem to keep comparing our players with other teams but we must not overlook different teams have different tactics and formations. As long as we keep winning games I don't really care who scores for us but from an entertainment point I think we do need to score more from the midfield. Palacios is a bit of a rough diamond but he was also brought into the team to add steel and break up play which imo he is doing. Some seem to forget that we were in deep shit until Harry came in and brought in players like Palacios, alot of you say its down to Keane but I think it was more down to Palacios breaking up the opposition's possession.

As individuals we tend to look at different things when watching the game so I guess there will always be a difference of opinions.

More than Fletcher?

Fool.

It's September. I like Fletcher, he has improved a lot, but Palacios is a better player technically for me and has a very good shot on him. Fletcher scored two headers from wonderful Giggs' crosses but I think Palacios has more strings to his bow and is still young.

I don't mind people having different opinions but there is a section of our fans who want to perpetuate the fallacy that Jenas is inconsistant and useless.
These people are clowns and need to be told!
Simples!:)

I'm not getting into comparing who is better, the response was to those insisting Fletcher doesn't get enough goals. I brought Palacios in to illustrate that Fletcher, like Palacios is a deep lying midfielder so will not score a shitload, but I still reckon he will outscore Palacios season on season. Palacios has only 1 goal in his whole Premier League career to date.

Still young? they're both still young, Fletcher is a mere 6 months older than Palacios.

Fletcher has about double the appearences, but that's not really the point is it? I said Fletcher will outscore Palacios season upon season, he got 4 last year and has 2 already this year.

This whole thing was to illustrate that just because Fletcher is not scoring loads of goals doesn't mean he's not a quality midfielder. Everyone on here agrees Palacios is a quality midfielder, but he too scores few goals, even less than Fletcher.

The point of talking about Palacios was simply because he is a deep lying player, scores few goals, but is still quality - not a direct comparison of one player's benefits against the other's.

I guess we are getting away from the point with all this palacios talk and comparison. First of all, like I said, I do not think Fletcher is a steely defensive midfielder anyway, so there is no comparison to Palacios - This thread was about JJ, and he has and will score more goals than Fletcher, and not because Fletcher is a defensive midfielder, but because JJ is a better player!

JJ better than Fletcher  You're cute.

There's a reason one is first choice in the United team, ahead of Carrick.

JJ would start ahead of Fletcher in the Spurs team - different teams, different set-up

So are you saying you would rather have Fletcher start in our current team than JJ?

In terms of Premiership experience, they are quite different and I think Fletcher has reached a point where he cannot get much better. Whether he will score more than Palacios is moot, but he plays with better players, but I was merely stating that to say Palacios will not score the odd goal is at odds with fact and to say he never will is pointless at his age and stage of development.

I think Ferguson and Fletcher have worked hard over the years at making him a better player but in terms of raw talent and athletic ability Palacios and Jenas are better; where Fletcher eclipses them both, and fair play to him, is consistency and that he is part of a better team and manager.

I didn't state Palacios won't score the odd goal! I said that despite Fletcher being a deep lying midfielder he will will pop up with the odd goal as well, more so than Palacios will.

I used Palacios as a point in saying if you're a deep lying midfielder you're not likely to score many and just because you don't doesn't make you a bad player.

Fletcher is a deep lying midfielder but he still manages to grab the odd goal, more than Palacios ever will.

I just took this to mean Palacios will not score, but at all. Misunderstanding. Obviously scoring doesn't mean everything but I don't see either Fletcher or Palacios, especially, as necessarily 'deep lying' midfielders. I think both play with more fluidity. Palacios gets all over the shop and Fletcher is good at joining attacks late.

I think we may see a different Palacios if we buy a more deep lying midfielder (Sandro), he has the energy, pace, passing and finishing to be very good I think. He is Zokora but with better technique in the last two attributes.

You might be right. And yes that was a minor misunderstand there!

I've seen Fletcher boss Champions League midfield teams on his own and score goals, but he gets little credit overall. Even my United supporting best mate has only just come round to the fact that he is a top midfielder, I've been telling him since the Roma 7-1 game where he was the best player on the park.

Fletcher is the most underrated player in the premier league. He is also the most improved player in the last 3 years. He is also the reason Man Utd got bossed out if the CL last year.

He's always been excellent in Europe.

Or perhaps it was just that Barca were far to good for United?

I didn't say the reason they lost, I said the reason they got bossed out of it. I know they rhyme, but there is a very big difference.
