He's no improvement in what we already have.. We must stop looking to buy players who are deemed as bargains, as in most cases there becomes very quickly a very valid reason why they are bargains..

I can't recall too many Japanese players setting the Premier League on fire. Kagawa is supposed to be the best and he struggled to make a real impact at Man Utd.

He doesn't play where Carroll plays. And he's an absolute shitload better than Sigurdsson and a good deal better than Holtby.

I'm not convinced he is to be honest. If I compare Honda for CSKA vs how good holtby looked for Schalke, or even sigurdsson for swansea, then there's very little difference in quality. Plus holtby is a lot younger with more potential therefore.

We all saw how good holtby was in the under 21s, and whilst Honda regularly looks good for Japan, he looks no better than gio does for Mexico.

In fact, the only time holtby hasn't looked great is this season for us, and that could be due to adjusting to a new league, bedding in, being played out of position, or all of the above...

There's certainly no guarantee that Honda will be an instant hit in the Pl, just like Kagawa has/will need time.

Same for any player joining any team from any other team.

Kagawa is being played out of position, so says Jurgen Klopp anyway. He said it upsets him to see.

Not bothered, good player but we have Holtby who will be better given time and Sig. Also Honda is more accustomed to playing central and sometimes the right, we need someone who plays on the left. Good player but one we shouldn't be after just because he is cheep.

As much as he's a class act and I'd love to have him, but you are right. If we didn't have Holtby already, and to a lesser extent Sigurdsson I'd suggest we be all over this. We can't go for every player just because they may be available.

If he's going Milan perhaps KPB may well be on his way out after all. They reckon they need to sell Robinho first but I don't think he's part of this process, although they need his wages off the books.

Im too fussed as we have 5 CMs already if you count sig but even that is too much as sig hardly get time next season imo, I think both Falque and Townsend are better on the wings and his position has always been AM which is likely to be taken by Paulinho/Dembele or Holtby.

Also barca have been linked with a move for Honda if Thiago leaves lol

A fair bit of talk on SO about some cryptic relating to us going after Honda. Not RO worthy as it's from twitter, but here you go...

IMO there is still a Modric-shaped hole in our midfield. If we had had a playmaker in midfield last season we would not have struggled so much to break down the relegation fodder that parked the bus at WHL and we'd be looking forward to CL football right now.

I rate Holtby and from what I've seen from his time at Shalke and the German U21s I think he's eventually going to become an excellent player for us but he did not exactly get the job done last season. That can be explained by the fact that he was acclimating to a new league/teammates, he was often being played out of his natural position, etc., but it'd be foolish to be completely reliant upon him to be our creative force in midfield next season. Considering that we're likely going to be challenging to lift the trophy in every competition that we enter next season there are going to be enough matches for two creative CMs to rotate and not hamper his development in any way.

Here we have a player who fills this exact position of need, is available for well below his real market value due to his contractual situation and has sky-high commercial value (to add to those of Bale and potentially Villa). Giants such as Milan and Barcelona are rumored to be tracking him FFS. We really ought to be all over this.

Why are we even talking about Honda, there has been pretty much no link between us and him at all
