we need a player like him to break defences imo. Saw enough before shelvey got sent off.
A player like him wouldn't break down a deep block like Newcastles.

I've stated this ad nauseum but a deep block is specifically designed to negate quick players getting in behind. This is why teams like Liverpool with tons of quick players still suck against teams who sit deep.

What a player like Keita is good for is counter attacking teams like Liverpool and City who push their players forward.

True, but mainly where through-balls and balls over the top, in behind the defence are concerned

Direct, powerful, quick players who can run at the full-back are still very effective against teams that sit back

Players like that still draw fouls and yellow cards, or else get to the bye-line and cross the ball into the box

To be honest, it's a type of player that we've lacked for a couple of seasons against the packed defences, which we've faced

Son is potentially our closed to this type of player, but I wouldn't call him particularly 'powerful' as such. I suspect that we signed Sissoko to do this, but we've seen how that has turned out

I doubt PSG would sell him after one season and I doubt he would push through a move, at least until Jan. They would also probably ask for a lot, more then Juve would pay. It is crazy tho, PSG are an absolute joke.

And Draxler has played well for them every time I've seen him

That's not completely true though. Often the strategy of those teams is to shephard the play out wide and lure those dribbling players into cul-de-sacs out wide.

The proof is really in the pudding though when you look at how teams with those pacey players still struggle to score against bus parkers.

I totally agree that the best tactic is to shepherd pacy (and indeed all) attacking players out wide.

But that's because (i) the defending team doesn't really have a credible alternative; it's either that or let the opposition play through the centre, which is worse.

And (ii) most teams don't have particularly good attacking wide players, capable of relentlessly taking on and beating the full-back. That's why players who can do that are so highly sought after.

All in all, however, it's about having many different attacking options in your 'locker' depending on the opposition, the form you're in, if certian players are having a good or bad game, etc.

We certainly keep the ball well, counter-attack well and are patient in the final third. What we also need is a wider player who can attack the full-back with pace and power; definitely as a substitute option in the last 20 minutes, if needs be.

Added to that, and perhaps I'm being a little controversal here, I'd say that we also need a big number 9 squad player who we can play direct to, when we've got 15 minutes on the clock and are chasing a goal. Granted, this sort of player isn't top of our priorites list and would be deemed a bit 'old-fashioned', but I still think they'd be useful (for instance in the game against West Ham away last season).

I haven't watched lots of games with him, but I'm figuring the likes of Llorente is that type of player; happy to be corrected on that, but my point still stands.

Keita is more than just pace. He has exceptional dribbling at a slower speed which is where coming up against 2/3 players in a deep block he can dribble around them rather than being a head down merchant.

Juventus have just signed Blaise Matuidi, I doubt very much now that they will sign Keita Balde. They have already signed 11 players this summer

What's a CM got to do with Keita? They've wanted Matuidi all summer.

The deal is dead. He said no to us.
This is correct. Juve know they are in the driver's seat on this one because he wants to go there and he has one year left on his deal. Lazio are making this kids life are miserable as possible to force him to want to leave now and agree to anyone who meets Lazio's valuation. Juve know this and will likely wait Lazio out until the very end of the window to get him for a cut rate fee. If Lazio don't accept, Juve wait a year and get him on a free. Unless Juve tell Keita that they won't move for him (why would they), and he wants out bad enough to pass on the chance to play for Juve in a year (which it doesn't look like is the case), this ship has sailed.

Why, when the likes of JJ have said it's dead, do I still keep popping into this thread. I think this TW is finally taking it's toll on my brain
