True, but mainly where through-balls and balls over the top, in behind the defence are concerned

Direct, powerful, quick players who can run at the full-back are still very effective against teams that sit back

Players like that still draw fouls and yellow cards, or else get to the bye-line and cross the ball into the box

To be honest, it's a type of player that we've lacked for a couple of seasons against the packed defences, which we've faced

Son is potentially our closed to this type of player, but I wouldn't call him particularly 'powerful' as such. I suspect that we signed Sissoko to do this, but we've seen how that has turned out

You do know we didn't really struggle that much to score last season against said packed defences?

We scored 86 goals. More than anyone else in the league.

It's great to have players with a variety of skill sets in the side but no one type of player is the key to our being able to beat parked bus teams. Especially not just fast powerful direct players. More often than not it has been intelligence and sneaky running from deep positions that has won us points. I would also say having someone who is a crossing specialist like Tripper will always get you more goals than a speed demon who gets to the byline buts wastes a cross.

I agree with what you're saying pretty much, but see my expanded answer after the post you quoted

What I'm highlighting is the need for a further attacking dimension (or two) to our game, to improve our already very high standards

True and I do agree that the more weapons we have in our arsenal, the better equipped we will be to handle any situation

I must admit I do worry about spurs being one dimensional, pace needed within our team big time.

I don't think we're one dimensional. I think the amount and variety of goals we score is testament to that.

I do, however, think that pace is a dimension we miss.

So I agree!

They can also encourage him to sit still and then sign him for free next year.
That's always riskier though. If they tell him to wait a year, he may then tell them he's going somewhere else, which would force them to come in (they would never tell him that they're going to wait a year). Believe me, this thing will go to the wire and he will be off to Juve by the end of the window.

Don't exactly make him feel very wanted by encouraging that though. He might prefer Juve, but does he want them so bad he's willing to sacrifice one year playing first team football?

Juve playing the game we're playing with Barkley. One year left on his contract, rival after him, player doesn't want a new contract. I'd expect Juve to signing him about the same time we get Barkley

You encourage him by offering additional salary as compensation. There's no transfer free involved, they can kick some of that his way.

It doesn't help matters for Lazio when their club president runs his mouth to the press and says that they have accepted multiple offers for the player but he has refused them all. What a dipshit. How do they expect to get any money out of Juve that way?

Just like Everton and their non stop talking policy.
