no chance this happens in January but could very well see it come summer

I agree that it's unlikely but I don't think it's impossible.
With Dier freed up as DM and being able to slot into the back 4/3, and the emergence of CCV as a prospect, the club may see cashing in an option if Pochettino does not rate him any more.

Be a shame though if we let him go, although I agree he deserves to be playing more.

I don't expect Wimmer to stick around next season if things carry on like this which is a shame but he needs games I suppose.

I imagine about 75% of SC agree with this and it doesn't need saying but we need to get Dier out of defence and back to midfield and Wimmer, who was excellent last season when called upon, should be rotating with Jan in easier games or to save him playing last 20 mins of a tough game when we have another tough in a few days

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he left

It would require someone to pay big money (by way of January window tax) but I think we'd be happy to sell if we got a good deal for him

He's pretty surplus and even if he is decent cover I don't see a long term future for him her and we'd potentially get more now than we could in the summer for him

That's a slightly bizarre comment really. If he's pretty decent cover for Jan - he basically slotted in last season and we didn't miss Jan at all (indeed some thought that we were worse when Jan returned) - but is 5 years his junior then that makes him a pretty good player with prospect of getting better.

Jan is about to turn 30 and sooner or later we need to think about him not playing every game, let alone being injured. We have a good, long-term replacement fully integrated into our squad who has already stepped up to the plate. Dier, on the other hand, has struggled at CB (be had usually covered for Toby of course) but is a beast in midfield

The opposite of surplus surely unless you mean simply that Poch doesn't rate him

Wimmer' a funny one to me.

He joined us and knew logically he wouldn't get much game time in front of Jan and Toby, got some games when Jan got injured and seemed happy as Larry in summer - he'd even said he knew it would be tough to get get in team.

Then this season seems to have got sulks on even though Jan hasn't been injured for him to step in (although we still have second half of season).

Plus as others have said Jan is getting older now so will probably have more chances in future.

I don't think he's in our long term plans anymore and that's why I think he's surplus

He did pretty well last season. Although personally I always felt his performances were overrated

He's looked poor this year in my opinion, both for us and Austria and I think with Dier able to slot in and CCV coming in to the fold Poch seems to have changed his mind on where he sees Wimmer's future with us (just my opinion from his lack of game time after last season)

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he was sold. we shall see

I'd be very surprised if he became a first team regular for us in the next 3 years.

It wasn't long ago people were saying Chirices was "born to play for Spurs" and assured me he was going to come good and be a star for us. I see Wimmer's Spurs career heading the same way, time will tell I guess

It won't happen, both players are left footed.

Doesn't that make it more likely for him to rotate with Jan then? as the poster you quoted said

Like for like (left footed) replacement that would allow Jan to play less against easier team and preserve him (what I took from the posters points)

I think he'll leave come summer but we need him as cover for and to give Jan a break here and there throughout the second half of the season

but neither are left footed, to sell Wimmer now and then Jan get injured, we wouldn't have the balance Poch prefers, and would mean using Davies as cover, who might also be off and is best when the left of 3 CB.

It still wouldn't surprise me if we sold him

Only requires someone to make a decent bid in my opinion

Whether someone would pay enough is a different matter - maybe Davies will be more in demand and that will lead to us selling him instead

I'd say he was in our long term plans as we offered him a new contract 6 months ago, I just think Vertonghen's form is keeping him out of the side. It will come down to the same situation as Chadli was in last season, whether he wants to stay and fight for his place or whether he wants to leave and get regular football.
