At uni, we always have the same arguement - Which league is better?

95% say the English league is better.. Because:

1) There's more money in it
2) It's faster
3) It's more competitive

HOWEVER, being the contrarian that I am, I vote the Spanish league better. Not just to be opposite, but I actually do think it is. Why? because:

1) They have won more champs league and WAFER cups than England
2) Better players
3) More skilfull game

Anyway, at the end of it all, I ask the question, okay fella's, who would win out of a Primera Div. 11 Vs. an EPL 11??

They stutter somewhat. What do you guys think?

Pick two elevens first.

an example of an EPL team would be
Cech
Hutton King Ferdinand Evra
Ronaldo Fabregas Gerrard J. Cole
Torres Rooney

and La liga

Casillas
S. Ramos Puyol Cannavaro Abidal
Senna Xavi
Robinho Raul Messi
Villa

Out of those teams, i couldn't call it, but based on leagues alone, i would say I prefer the premiership all round, but watching real or barca is sometimes different class, and I don't think there will eve rbe a definitive answer, its all a matter of opinion.

Fabregas & Gerrard midfield would be about as effective as Gerrard & Lampard

If each premier league team played the La Liga equivalent (based on current league position) I suspect that overall the English teams would do better. Of course, the scientific approach would be to set up a massive league on maybe Winning 11 (PS2 version), containing all the teams from each league. Obviously the user team would be the mighty Tottenham, and each of their games would be replayed until they won, or possibly set to amatur level.

Kyras, you'd pick Villa over Nistelrooy, Eto'o and Henry? Interesting..

You guys haven't posted any verdicts, just teams..

I think they'd crush us..

Cech
Eboue Toure Ferdinand Evra
Ronaldo Fabregas Gerrard J.Cole
Torres Drogba

Casillas
Zambrotta Puyol Canavarro Drenthe
Robinho Sneijder Ronaldinho Messi
Henry Nistelrooy

To be honest, picking the best La Liga 11 is way too difficult. Which is telling in itself of the quality there.

Can't be bothered to get into team selection shit. It would be even Steven—we're the two best leagues in Europe (the world?). Serie A's slipping further behind, the Bundesliga's gone, baby, gone.

One thing that is for sure, the Spanish press is getting seriously concerned about the slide over the last couple of seasons.

They're going nuts in fact, the Spanish press that is. This year has been good on the domestic front for Serie A, its been exciting football and everyone likes to watch Milan suffer. But they have tanked it in Europe, but I wouldn't count them out just yet. Anyway, the quality of the Prem outside of the top 4 teams is nothing to brag about. I personally think that the Spain has a much deeper league, its hard to say though...could Villa or Pompey handle Villareal or Athletico?

It's hard to say really. From a purely skilful point of view I would say La Liga is better, and for those that like it that way would say it's a better league. "Action" wise I'd say the EPL league is better.
Barca certainly was the better "footballing" team when they met ManU, and one could also say that about Gooners vs Liverpool.
One thing I reckon most agree on though: they are right now the top 2 leagues in the world. Serie A comes third.

On the season's form, there's no way that Henry would make La Liga 11.

MY opinion is that although the Premiership has the stronger top teams (Man Utd, Chelsea), La Liga has better strength in depth.

It shows because we do not dominate both European Trophies. If we did that, then we could stake a claim at being the best league in the world, but we don't even come near winning the Uefa Cup. (is Qtr Final near?).

So top four in England do well in Europe, anything under it don't.
Hopefully next season we will see a complete shift towards the EPL.

never would happend due to club pressure but would be interesting viewing

also who would manage the "team" the international coach for the nation or the league winning manager?

I like the idea of that.

German, Italian, Spanish and English teams, like the top 6 all going into a tournament like in the world cup format!!

Probably get better football ;)

Some of those teams are so unrealistic its funny. Some people seem to get so excited over the attacking talents around Europe that the more defensive, less flair players get overlooked. Some of the best players in Europe are not the ones who nutmeg people or score 40 yard screamers, but the ones who play disciplened roles, breaking up oppostition attacks a launching new ones. Carrick being the perfect example.

You would have to base both teams on a 442 because its the most basic formation. Messi or Ronaldo playing in a midfield 3 in a 433 is suicide.

Also, this needs to be based on this seasons form, so there should be no place for Ronaldinho etc.

My teams would be:

EPL
-------------------------Cech-------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
-M.Richards-----------Rio---------Terry----------Clichy-
-------------------------------------------------------
-C.Ronaldo----------Gerrard------Carrick---------J.Cole-
-------------------------------------------------------
---------------------Torres-----Berbatov---------------

La Liga
-------------------------Casillas-----------------------
-------------------------------------------------------
-Dani Alves----Sergio Ramos-----Cannavaro------Abidal-
-------------------------------------------------------
-Messi------------Xavi----------Guti----------Robinho--
-------------------------------------------------------
----------------Luis Fabiano----Villa--------------------

If you were going on this seasons form you'd have to drop Villa and put Guiza who's been outstanding this year also id maybe put Ibagaza who has the most assists this season in instead of Guti.

if its this season you also cant include berbatov, he has not been the 1st or 2nd best striker this year at all!

I was thinking more of a strike parnership that would complement each other. Berba as the creative flair player and Torres the pacey clinical finisher. You cant say Berba has been bad this season. Drogba and Adebayor are obviously up there as well I just thought Torres and Berba would work better together, and the point of the thread was 'who would win?'.
