Many former premier league stars (Henry, Bergkamp) struggled in their first season. Let's hope Eric has a similar impact for us in the next few years!

...when the team have had the ball, it has been difficult to pin-point Lamela’s precise position or, indeed, those of any of the three attacking midfielders behind the striker.

“It depends on the situation whether Erik will play as the No10 or wide,” Pochettino said. “My philosophy is to give a freer style with a good organisation and not only with Erik, with other players.

Does pooch mean a good defensive organisation and a freer attacking style?
A more organised defence sounds good, but is Lamela good enough to merit a free role, let alone the other players?

This topic has been on the lips of every spurs fan this pre-season. Instead of somewhat expecting a miracle, let's not be criticial. Let the lad play his game.

People forget that Soldado had a shit season too, and he played way more football. Yet we don't feel the need to put him to the sword as much as Lamela.

I think there has been huge positivity towards Lamela on this site. There are plenty who have had a lot more stick. My worry is that expectations might be too high.

TBH I'd say Bobby has had more shit and it could be argued rightly so due to his experience and reputation. IMO we can't judge anyone on last season due to the managerial changes. Honestly starting to believe we can see the start of some real, solid football that seems to actually be planned in some sort of way. This time next week il be fucking excited.

It was the briefest soundbite imaginable but for Erik Lamela it seemed to encapsulate what will go down as his lost season. Asked in April how the Tottenham Hotspur record signing was progressing with his English, the club’s manager, Tim Sherwood, mixed off-the-cuff wit with exasperation. “Que?” Sherwood said.

You did not need to be a Fawlty Towers fan to see the picture being presented. Like Manuel from Barcelona, Lamela was the Spanish-speaker struggling to express himself in England, a somewhat hapless figure and the butt of jokes.

Class act as always. A 22 year old lad struggling a bit with his third language. How's your Spanish Tim?
