Berbatov
Keane (first time)
Saha (but not for us)
Kanoutè (but not for us)
Postiga (definitely not for us)
Sheringham
Ferdinand
Iversen
Klinsmann

Erm...
Lineker.

Yeah...

Iversen? Are you having a giraffe? A bit of a cult guy yeah but better than Defoe please take a seat, and 3 of them didn't play for us......

They all played for us, just some not well. I rate Defoe higher than Iversen, Postiga and obviously Saha and Kanoutè didn't really perform for us.

am i missing something - thought this thread had something to do with Lamela

The thread is called 'Is Jermain Defoe a Tottenham legend'

......oh no wait a minute!!

Anyway Perryman & Mabbutt are both Tottenham legends but I wouldn't put either anywhere near my best Spurs teams. JD has to go down as a legend

You can definitely see Lamela's quality though the pitch in Russia wasn't conducive to the sort of football Lamela was trying to play. His a young lad too so will need time to adjust to the speed from Italian to English.

The kid didn't even get 90 minutes this time.

And he didn't look that pleased coming off either.

and it did not help when he could not speak English yet, comes from Italian league just 2 months ago, played in Russia, refereed by a Turkish official, and cursed in Spanish for decisions against him today..

I think he's looked very silky, keeps the ball very well indeed. Needs more confidence when going at players though, but that will come. I'm sure there was a piece on him before he came that said his best success in attacking players was on the counter/when the team moved the ball quickly. We've not been playing that brand and so it'll take time, but if he gets a goal soon it'll settle him. Should've scored at Villa.

Woops. I must've jinxed him. very very poor with the ball today, gave it away a lot and looked scared when facing up a player. The pitch quality can only take partial blame. I think he needs more Prem minutes though.

AVB knows best. I know we're all excited to see this £30M wonderkid in action but what the hell has Townsend done wrong to be randomly dropped? Lamela will be eased in and will have to earn his place. It's a long season and we're gonna play a lot of games so the boy will get his chance. Early days...

Townsend certainly looks like our best option from the right at the moment and besides, only time will tell in concern with whether it continues but his decision making was much better in his last match against Chelsea.

I can't believe how many people are pushing for Lamela to take Townsend's spot. Townsend has looked our most dangerous player, he beats defenders for fun...he had one game where he took like 4 shots and people are saying he's taken 500. He showed vs Chelsea he's capable of playing a killer pass. I don't understand why everyone is like this, any other EPL team would snap Townsend up, he's a very, very good player. Lamela, I have a ton of hope for him and still think he'll end up great, but he has done absolutely nothing to warrant taking Townsend's spot.

I'd try to move Lamela to LW maybe. Siggy is playing there but he isn't actually delivering any "LW-things". Yes, Siggy did score 3 goals but LW needs to beat defenders, cross, cut and so on. Siggy isn't doing that at all.

And I think it's worth saying that if Lamela had come in and looked like Townsend has so far, we'd all be jizzing ourselves.

Lamela will need time to adjust. In the meantime I'm thankful that Townsend has started so well.
