Was it my imagination or did Lamela not come on last weekend, win a header, then dribble the ball into the box with his head up, finding Paulinho for the goal with a great pass? I really thought that would've given AVB the perfect opportunity to insert him into the starting line-up for this Chelsea match. At the very least, I thought he'd play a few minutes today.
As for Lamela's skill set and adapting, this guy isn't some developmental player. Neither Capoue, nor Eriksen had seasons anywhere near as good as Lamela (best player on a team consisting of Totti, Pjanic, Osvaldo, De Rossi), who played in a significantly tougher league than Ligue 1 and Eredevisie. Yet they've both gotten starts.
Some will disagree, but I thought AVB waited way too long to introduce Lloris last season. I think if he was inserted right away, we would've performed better earlier at the back, and likely made top 4 (Lloris wasn't a regular until late November).
At the end of the day, we don't have the financial clout to just spend 30 million pounds on a player and have him not start a majority of league matches. That's especially true when you've spent another 26.8 million pounds on a striker who needs service at his feet from players who play with their head up looking for others to make runs (something Townsend typically does not do).
Furthermore, this is a World Cup year and he's currently in the Argentina squad. There's no way he's staying there by being a Cup player for us.
I just hope he gets a chance to play more than 20 minutes against West Ham next weekend.
lol partly your imagination I think! Didn't holtby play him into space wide with a sweet pass to which Lamela then played a cross to Paulinho to score?
Rather the slightly more of the rovers version you imagined of him winning a header, dribbling into the box then crossing for paulinho
Agree we all know it's just a matter of time but needs to happen now imo, when Townsend was taken off today we had next to no threatWould like to see him introduced to the starting line up now.....
That is all.
Problem was Soldado was so poor today he no choice but to swap him with DefoeWas it my imagination or did Lamela not come on last weekend, win a header, then dribble the ball into the box with his head up, finding Paulinho for the goal with a great pass? It seems the more Lamela doesn't play the better he gets
Hate to break it to the Lennon crowd but he isn't even making the bench when he's back at this rate
soldado doesn't speak a word of english either but he starts.
