So, to sum up, we (and particularly those who pay good money for the 'privilege') should accept getting hammered at home by the Barcodes because it's going to be jam tomorrow?

I'm not making excuses for casualities in this approach but that "good money" will be seem great value when you see the results of this tactic. One piece of chocolate now... or a whole bar if you wait?

I am? What other interpretation did you have in mind?

Seats are filled in advance. That's probably just as well.

i interpreted most of it as paper talk
Well, yes, except the comments were released right after winning the Carling Cup. Which is when the current match tickets were being sold, right?

All this says to me is that this mentality is the difference between the Spurs of now & the team we aspire to be. Top teams don't do this, they drill in the winning mentality whether we've got something to play for or not.

With all due respect those top teams remain motivated becasue at this time in the season they are still involved in something worth fighting for. It not the same situation for us so impossible to predict how we and ramos would be like if we've won the CC and been in with a shout of 4th too.

both yourself and SS57 have made valid comebacks but none of them outweight the benefits i listed.

That was from an interview on 18th April. It was a direct quote, not paper talk.

It's a nice idea that we are taking it easy & saving ourselves for next season, but I'm dubious as to whether things actually work that way.

My idea is Eutopic but i've also listed some sensible motives as to why it might be true. Also it's not an anti effort cmapaing more of an anti get stressed about things too much one.

last season we went the last 21 games only lososing once and winning most.... and then what happened?!? SO the opposite to what I THINK we're doing also has dubious aspirations of being successful.

by dissmissing my theory entirely you must therefore think Ramso is trying but can't!! that doesn't bode well.

If i'm right and we do hit the ground running and are excellent and strong i'll not get the credit for foresight. Ramos would be a fool to ever admit that was his tactic so we'll never know.. but look out for little signs. who plays 442 agasint us early in the season. how Ramos starts getting back up of his chair and makes subs and foramtion changes early again. How when we've been average first half we improve after half time chats again. All the things he's DECIDED not to after the UEFA exit.

The motivation thing is so odd. Surely as professionals they shouldn't "need" motivating, they should be taking pride in their own performances. But then this season became a write off as soon as Uefa qualification was guaranteed.

If we hang onto Hutton, Woody and Bale, and if King can regain any sort of fitness then we have a very good first choice back four anyway. We will hopefully see a bit of Dervitte next season too.

Read my reply on the previous page... no matter how "professional" they are, you can't get beyound the fact they are human beings...

Bully for you, sunbeam.
Hotspurs61 I must have been diagnosed a fruit-loop over fifty years ago when i first started supporting our beloved SPURS. How many of the players i have listed to sell would get in a c/l team in the uk or europe. If we sell 13 players it does not mean we have to buy 13, somebody said the prices were unrealistic what do you think we could get for them.My total 44mil,i would buy Bridge 6 mil, Ganero 8mil, Capel 8mil, Diego11 mil,Gonzalez 10mil, Arshavin10mil,Neuer/Amelia 9mil.,my choice would be Kirkland and Schmeichel for about the same money and the young c/bfrom Mold 2mil,total 64 mil, net cost 20mil Squad Alnwick,Schmeichel,Kirkland,Gunter, King,Woodgate,Kaboul, Dervitte,BAE,Gilberto, Bridge,Lennon,Arshavin, Huddlestone,Gonzalez,Granero, Diego, Taarbat, Rose, Capel, Bale,Bent,Keane,Berbatov,We have spent more than 20mil on average players in the last two years, hope we do not sell Kaboul, has potential to be the next Ledley. Why are we not giving Kaboul, Rose, Gunter,Taarbat,Pekhart,a run out to see what they can do . To Blotto,Marty,Hybridsoldier, Spurs.Since57 P/S still leaves other youngster like Button

All the same, Chris, it really doesn't explain how we can put together a great fighting performance to grab a draw against the Chavs (and almost beat the buggers), produce a patient professional performance to see off Pompey, and thrash the Spammers—and then play as atrociously as we did against the Brummies and the Barcodes. And OK, Ewood's a tough place to visit and a draw there's no disgrace, but… Well, you get the picture. It seems to me almost that the better the opposition, the better we play. I have this vision of two more 1-1 games against Bolton and Reading, and then a win against the Scousers.

Back in August and September some of us suggested that the players should be looking to themselves and were poo-pooed; it was all Jol and Hughton's fault. The last nine games have been only fractionally better than the first ten under Jol, however. So, should we be blaming Ramos, or the players?

Keano reckons we'll see the real Spurs next season, but I think a lot of questions have to be asked—not of our coaches, but of the higher tier.

Fair enough, but Arshivan and Neuer/Amelia won't come that cheap. It seems likely that Arshivan will be heading west next season, but we aren't the only ones interested--same goes for Amelia. It isn't good to assume that there are world class players waiting in the wings for every spot in our starting eleven, and even if there are we still need the utility players and squad players to make it all work. Personally, I don't think we need to sell a bunch of players--we need some improvements but a whole new team?

And if you're talking about Lucho Gonzales, I agree completely that he is class but Porto aren't likely to sell him.

Unless of course its the latter and not the former. Or maybe its a combination of the former and latter. Whose to say it is just the latter or the former. For all we know it may be neiter of the former or the latter.
All i want is a Latte now,

Lets do this bit by bit-
As said Dawson could be off, if the right offer comes in so we need a replacement and we seem to be linked with a few central defenders, this one could have legs,
Next up?
Robbo? whats people's view on him staying?yay or nay?

Robbo?

Choice A) Do a Jamo and resurrect his career elsewhere

Choice B) Stick around, temporarily swallow pride, see if new keeper cuts the mustard. If he does, follow A.

Talk of two new keepers just makes me uneasy. And I'd rate a top-class CB and DM as a higher priority anyway.

I think they'll ditch Robbo, Cerny & Alnwick...sign two new keepers & use one of the young players as a third choice. New keepers, new goalkeeping coach & a clean start for the next season.

Could the ITK about Daws and the Diaz story be connected?

I think its more likely that Cerny will leave--not because I don't like him, he did his best for us and seems to have a good attitude, but if a new keeper is on the way he is surely the odd man out. Can't see us buying two keepers, we need the money for other things--as 57 has pointed out. Plus, if we needed a third Alnwick is available--for recall or whatever the situation may be.

What is it percentagewise of 18 yr olds who go to a college at 18 away from their hometowns ? 30-40 % maybe .

I left a small town to live in London....fucking great it was..and I never got tens of thousands per week compensation either...Got zero sympathy for shrinking wall flower Dawson who's a bit scared of all the cars and houses in the city Eek . 'Homesickness' sounds like pure bull to me .

This has been a dreadful time since the CC . There is definitely a dent in Ramos's halo...the burst of CC positivity has long passed . The worst of it was Ramos being unable to refocus the players after the CC....1st a 4-1 loss to B'ham Eek ...and then we still weren't awake for the 1st PSV game the following Thurs .We really should have done better .

Don't tell me a run of great results wouldn't have affected Berby's decision making about his future either .

I have less confidence about the Berby free season coming up than many it seems . :-|

Well, the Beloved Leader has said we won't have failed if we don't get a CL spot next season. Do I detect an arse-covering exercise?

Uni is a bit different imo, as there's loads of people in the same boat who are the same age.

Spurs is a squad of less than 30 players. Dawson is around the same age as maybe a 3rd of those players and he has a girlfriend from back home aswell I believe.

Yeh probably right....but having a girlfriend back home always seemed to be forgotten during the freshers week back in the day.. :)
