Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is moving in on Brazilian superstar Leandro Damiao - despite their Champions League pain.
Redknapp sent top spy Ian Broomfield to watch the £15 million-rated hit man in action for his club Internacional in South America last night.
The long-distance trek is for one final report on Damiao deciding whether to blow the budget on the tall, prolific front runner rather than Emmanuel Adebayor or Frenchman Loic Remy.
Supremo Daniel Levy is ready for a plunge after Spurs finished fourth but cruelly missed out on the lucrative Champions League because of Chelsea’s success.
Adebayor is available to Tottenham, but his Manchester City wages and the cost of a fee makes it a hard deal for Tottenham - although they could use him if the price is right in a swap for Gareth Bale
Action

Remy is also fancied by Redknapp but Marseille want a huge price for him too, so scooping Damiao would be an attractive plan.
Tottenham have tired for Damiao before and there will be fierce rivalry, but the chief scout’s mission points to an imminent offer and a major attempt at one of the coups of the summer.
Spurs will need to decide on Adebayor soon as City want his future settled and need the funds to balance the books ahead of signings and considering the Financial Fair Play rules on the horizon.

HMS Damiao set sail a loooong time ago, lost hope at the end of last window!

Will be smashing if the planets align and we do get him, but by the sounds of things it has loong gone. In the unlikely event we did get him, I'd hope he and other striking options wouldn't be mutually exclusive

Every window I try to convince myself not to get sucked in but it always happens.

Can we please sign this lad now? :(

Leandro and Ade would be my dream strikeforce for next season (with Remy as a wide player who can also cover there).

Hope we can pull this off.

We've had 3 windows to barter on this. If we're still sniffing we must know the price and be tempted to meet it.

Yeah right, watch us go from Leandro to Yakubu in a twitch...:)
I know you're joking but with him scoring at United and hitting 14 goals I can see why a certain manager might think he's trffic.

We're not going to sign Leandro, Adebayor and Remy. It just won't happen. I think we'll be looking at one or possibly two from those three, plus VDV, Saha and young-un, loan or cheapy.

We still have the money from Crouch, Pav's and Keane's sale don't we? Not beyond the realms of possibility of us selling Defoe also. Bring in 2 that can definately lead the line and another (Remy) who can be used all across the front.

I respect your opinion, but I don't think it will happen. Leandro and Remy would cost £35 million for the two, plus £10m to £12m for Vertonghen, plus signing on fees for the three and wages for each towards the top our bracket, plus new contracts and pay rises for a few of our existing players. Add in Adebayor for £8-10 million, plus a sizeable signing-on fee to justify his having to take a wage cut, and then still wages at the top our bracket... I just don't see us chucking that sort of money around this summer. Bearing in mind also that we don't have Champions League revenue, and that our actual squad size is already too big and we've got a real job on our hands to shift the likes of Bentley, Jenas, Dos Santos, Krancjar, Gomes, Bassong etc from the wage bill, who are all likely to be very good earners, without taking a huge hit on their values and what we paid for them. I'd love to be proved wrong, of course.

All depends on what we get for Luka (if indeed he is going).

We have people to sell too. There is a lot of dead money in Spurs: Bentley, Gio, Gomes, Cudicini, Corluka, Bassong, Jenas. That's £30m in fees roughly and around £400k per week in wages!

Assuming you can a) get rid of them, and b) get rid of them at a decent price. Everyone knows those players are dead wood, and will bid accordingly. The top clubs won't be interested, and the clubs that will be, are likely to be put off by their wages, as most of them were at one point or another senior players for us. Not as easy as it sounds to shift that sackload of shit.

Its not, no, but we got a fair price for Pav and also if what was quoted in the papers about £11m fee for Gio (approx) being agreed, then Levy can get these things done. It NEEDS to be done. We've sat on them and they've sponged from us for too long.

Sack load of shit is a bit harsh .... granted Cudiciini and Bentley have no value but the others would still interest prem teams like Stoke, Villa etc even liverpool....

Your point stands though its not easy to shift these players ... I think as is usually the case we will sign one or 2 from a big list prob adebayor and Remy who can play on the wing as well ... if we dont manage to get the wages on Ade I see us going in strongly for leandro...

That was exactly my original point. We'll go for two from the three. All three would be too costly, considering all factors, in my opinion. I'd say Leandro's the least likely of the three.
