So what was said to illicit them comments from King? What happened immediately before that? See, this is where we have to consider context.

That guy could've spent an hour following Ledders about insulting his skin colour, his family and friends, his heritage, his culture - real poisonous shit perhaps, but that would all be ignored because all they want is a reaction. As soon as Ledders turns around and snaps back, even for less than 30 seconds, all the cameras start flashing and the soppy little chucklehead who's hate-spree fuelled this frustration gets away like some kind of victim.

It's celebrity baiting, some people do it safe in the knowledge that a celeb would very unlikely risk thumping you in front of a camera, others for the kudos of beating a celeb down.

This guy comes across as a grade a prick

I am personally not condeming the reaction of King to him, I am just condemning the fact he is out drinking during the season, which is completely ludicrous especially when he should trying not to do anything to stress that knee of his

So what of the George Best theory? All the outstanding players who have enjoyed a drink? (please, lets stop saying drink-problem, that's just fucking retarded)

Drugs are bad too, yet the greatest music created is all centered either around the composers drug use or the listeners.

Maybe there's a connection here - maybe we should just accept that some footballers, like George Best and Gazza will shine so brightly that they'll burn out quicker (or maybe that's because of how flammable their insides are, who knows).

Anyways, irrelevant - this was a scuffle outside a club where some harsh words were chucked about. Although i would say i've not used a racial insult since i was about 9 years old, i've said some horrible shit in the heat of things, possibly some worse than whats been said in this instance, but i'm stunned at how the usual apathy of life is blown away so quickly by a wee bit of footballer scandal

He's one of ours, he's the most dedicated servant we've had at the club since Mabbutt and loves us with all his heart. Back him, have some faith in him and accept that he's flesh and blood.

I don't really understand why you're going out of your way to justify what Ledley did, even going to the lengths of coming up with hypothetical scenarios (maybe he was followed around by a magical dinosaur who spiked his drink but disappeared when the press arrived) to excuse it all. Ledley has confessed he was in the wrong and has apologised, so if HE thinks he f*cked up, why can't you just accept it?

Of course the press are going to blow it out of all proportion, because he's a premiership footballer. All the more reason for people like Ledley to avoid being anywhere near a Soho bar, pissed on a Saturday night.

That's fair, but i don't understand why, when you know no more than the bare bones, with no relation to context, that we all know yet are prepared to condemn him.

Yes, there are a million scenarios, like you said, so why are you already decided that he's the villain here?

As i said, the papers won't print it if it's not sensational. Stop being so negative, stop being a press-monkey and over-reacting.

He's not a habitual drunk with a problem, he's not a mindless, racist thug. Whatever happened here it's only the second time he's been snapped in a situation that is anything but professional and you're joining the knee-jerk moral guardian brigade.

fact is this sort of thing will affect what levy thinks of him. king will not be able to pass a normal medical so it would be very difficult for him to go to a different club because he wouldnt be able to pass a medical
i do think that he will get a new contract at the club but hes a silly lad putting a new contract on the line like that hopefully this will wake him up like incidents have with carlton cole and rio ferdinand who in interviews in the past year have stated that due to some incidents they now have a completely different outlook and dont put themselves into situations like that so hopefully king will do the same

Footballers are very lacking in character and discipline compared to other sportsmen imo.

Yeah, it's not like world class swimmers have ever been photographed with bongs in their hand, or professional cycling has never ever had to suspend anyone for a drugs offence...

If you want proper sporting gentlemen, look at cricket. The way those boys reacted after winning the Ashes in 2005 was as dignified, sober and polite as you could imagine. Especially the ones who weren't drinking wine from pint glasses and vomiting in the toilet of 10 Downing Street.

I don't want to put the boots in on Ledders when he's down, but it's very poor judgment again on the same issue. It's bad enough this is not the first time he's done something like this, but it's not even the first time in 6 months. Remember those wonderful pix from earlier this season when he was poured out of a club in into a taxi? Not too smooth... Perhaps he really does need help? We all make mistakes, but repeating the same ones tend to be a red flag. He's not 20 anymore. I hope for the best for him.

I wonder how many SC'ers are condemning him completely, or just fucked off at the fact that our one-time captain who can't play more than one game in a week because of an injury, was so drunk he couldn't control himself and was arrested. Ignoring any of the details (because I don't believe a word I read in The Sun) the fact he was in that position pisses me off.

This of course was on the same day one of our players lost his younger brother... and was such a nice bloke that he waited 6 hours for his manager to wake up before leaving to go back and identify and bury him.

I love Ledley, and until he's found guilty of racially aggravated assault or the like, I won't be hounding him out of the club. Merely annoyed that he allowed himself to get into that situation. And one of the things that frustrates me most is this injury of his. Alcohol - even half a pint - can't help his recovery, can it? It's far more likely to hinder it. And I have SC's resident chemist - Shogun - to back me up!

I am very fucked off Ledley has gone and done this but I'm not going to turn on him completely until I find out (if we ever do) the full facts.

I can get over (albeit probably never quite feel the same way about him again) the incident provided there was no racial abuse...

If it was racially aggravated, then I don't want him to be associated with spurs anymore.

If that sounds harsh, tough.

I can see him being 'rested' for the remainder of the season, in the hope it's mainly forgotten about by the start of next season. I'm not sure Harry's too bothered about the Europa league and this, along with Defoe/Palacios brothers, could be used as an excuse as to why we didn't finish 7th.

I've not really shown an interest in this until co's I suspected it would just all blow over but after Talksport just made a big thing out of it I came on here and had a look at the paper links, all I can say is

He must have been really drunk to get in that state, pissing all over the street

Urinating in the cells

Oh dear Ledders, even Barton didn't manage to piss himself.

Mate, I don't know about you, but when I'm sloshed I've said far worse things, and I'd like to think I'm a more intelligent and eloquent human being than King is. One time I called my girlfriends best friend (who had severely pissed me off I might add) a whore who no-one would ever love, playing on the fact that I knew of her insecurity. That makes me a prime C***. She didn't talk to me for two years, now she is one of my best friends.

I don't condone any racism but I have faith that King isn't one.
Being drunk isn't an excuse for racism. Do you say racist things when you're drunk?
it depends - i would imagine that, if the guy had insulted him using his race as a slur and he replied in kind, would that make it any more forgivable in the eyes of the media?
Probably not. But anyway you don't fight racism with more racism.
Even drunk, i doubt Ledders would have said that. He probably slurred you fat bastard or something.
I don't know any more, I never even thought of him as someone who would get drunk and fall out of bars, especially given his knee injury.

Maybe he would take better care of himself if he knew he had to fight his way back into the side.
