Wouldn't you say that a new footballer to a country and the native players who are much more comfortable live different social lives? I'm sure if they were back in their own country and it were the other way around it'd be somewhat similar. Do you think mason was out on the piss with all the French players when he was at lorient? Or did he probably stay at home enjoying a glass of wine? I'm sure there are multiple factors and variables coming into play that influence these generalizations.

In terms of making sure you were in peak condition at all times, I'm sure you would, as that is already the mentality that you have. But like you said, these are guys in their twenties. We as fans, especially those devoted enough to get together on online forums, are naturally disposed to dart critical eyes at players that appear to not be upholding themselves to these rather unrealistic perfect standards. It's a job for a lot of them, and when we hear statements like Assou-Ekotto's or Dembele's saying this it hurts, because how could they possibly not lay every whim of their life on the club like us fans? I just don't think it's realistic to expect every player to be a badge kissing, alcohol abstained, one club man as we would like. Not saying this exactly what you mean, but it has those traits. In my opinion, players shouldn't be castigated for treating it as such, a job.
Why would they comment on the binge drinking culture if they did the same in their native country? Also, the binge drinking culture in England isn't limited to it's footballers, it's a well known problem that England has that isn't as bad in most parts of Europe.

I'm not talking about abstaining from Alcohol, I'm talking about not binge drinking most weekends, there is a massive difference. I have no problem with players who don't love football and just see it as a job, but there job is to be an athlete and they are paid ridiculous amounts for it. The difference between good footballers and great footballers is that good footballers do the minimum they have to and great footballers do that extra training, making sure they work on their weaknesses improve there strengths and make sure they are in peak physical condition.

Not surprised. He has looked hung over at every game so far this season. Now that he's not starting regularly it seems he doesn't care anymore.

So he's getting fucked off to the middle east? I mean, he is useless but he's not that useless. Stoke or arry could probably use him.

Lennon has been gifted some amazing athletic assets, if i was him i would be studying everything robben does except dive. The best of the best do extra training study the game (bale, coco, ronaldo). If Lennon had that drive to succeed more we would have a much better player. He is happy with status quo where he can get by without doing the extras, hence getting pissed and missing training.

To be fair everything I have ever read about Lennon over the years point to him being one of the most dedicated professionals at the club.

I think he had all the talent in the world when he was younger but has been let down poor coaching. It's almost as if his pace has restricted him fulfilling his talent. He was brought up through a system that encouraged defenders to hoof it to the fastest players for them to run on to. So he never really developed the technical ability to match his raw physical attributes.

If he was coming through in this era he would have developed into a more rounded player like Sterling.

God I wish he would leave, I know he's been here a long time but I've wanted him to leave the last few windows in all honesty. I really think players like him hold us back with their massive wages and minimal attacking input. He really limits our options in games. Dreading when/if one of Chadli, Lamela and Eriksen gets injured. It would surely mean him or Townsend would be back in the starting XI for PL games... I'm sure I'm not the only one who is disappointed when I see either of their names come up.

I am surprised that Lennon got served in the pubs and clubs. Someone must have been buying them for him.

Never understood why pro athletes go out get drunk like this, its so ungrateful towards the clubs and fans that let em live the priviliged lifes they have. You would never see the great players like Bale, Ronaldo etch do this, always the stupid avarage players...

As an experienced english player you would hope he would set a good example for our youngsters instead of getting pissed on a sunday. Hope we put him in the reserves for quite some time to set an example for others.

Maradonna, Best, and Gazza...

Not condoning it, just saying that not all people are the same, be it talent or commitment wise. Also not saying that Lennon and Naughton are anywhere near that standard of the three guys I mentioned..

No. The issue is not Lennon getting fucked up one night. We all do it! The issue is he skipped training. So it was essentially amateur hour. At least we are able to get up for work or class or whatever you have after a night if drinking. Lennon was clearly not able to like an amateur.

I'm sorry, but this is all just ridiculous, particularly the bolded bit. he's had how many coaches in his career, and we're supposed to believe they ALL ruined him while several other players managed to improve under the very same coaching? do me a favour....there's only one person to blame if Aaron Lennon hasn't developed, and that's Aaron Lennon

re the conversation about English players, I think it's fairly common knowledge they're more likely to go out getting slaughtered than their foreign counterparts, and definitely in the case of our players. pretty much every pic you see of our players being snapped on a night out involves the likes of Lennon, King, Huddlestone, Defoe, Jenas etc looking considerably worse for wear. it's really not advisable behaviour when you're a professional athlete, and there's just no way you can expect to compete at a similar level to your peers when you're not taking the care of your body that they do theirs. it stands to reason.
