Why would they comment on the binge drinking culture if they did the same in their native country? Also, the binge drinking culture in England isn't limited to it's footballers, it's a well known problem that England has that isn't as bad in most parts of Europe.Wouldn't you say that a new footballer to a country and the native players who are much more comfortable live different social lives? I'm sure if they were back in their own country and it were the other way around it'd be somewhat similar. Do you think mason was out on the piss with all the French players when he was at lorient? Or did he probably stay at home enjoying a glass of wine? I'm sure there are multiple factors and variables coming into play that influence these generalizations.
In terms of making sure you were in peak condition at all times, I'm sure you would, as that is already the mentality that you have. But like you said, these are guys in their twenties. We as fans, especially those devoted enough to get together on online forums, are naturally disposed to dart critical eyes at players that appear to not be upholding themselves to these rather unrealistic perfect standards. It's a job for a lot of them, and when we hear statements like Assou-Ekotto's or Dembele's saying this it hurts, because how could they possibly not lay every whim of their life on the club like us fans? I just don't think it's realistic to expect every player to be a badge kissing, alcohol abstained, one club man as we would like. Not saying this exactly what you mean, but it has those traits. In my opinion, players shouldn't be castigated for treating it as such, a job.
I'm not talking about abstaining from Alcohol, I'm talking about not binge drinking most weekends, there is a massive difference. I have no problem with players who don't love football and just see it as a job, but there job is to be an athlete and they are paid ridiculous amounts for it. The difference between good footballers and great footballers is that good footballers do the minimum they have to and great footballers do that extra training, making sure they work on their weaknesses improve there strengths and make sure they are in peak physical condition.
